Source for 4x36 belts?

I think Klingspor has a good selection of them. I don't have the web address for them

I have found that most of the belts available in that size are only good for wood.

Industrial abrasives co. has them in aluminum oxide in grits from 36 to 400 for a buck and a half each if you order 24. Or the AO white belts with no load lube in 60 through 180 for $1.83 ea for 24.

They aren't exactly norton hoggers, but they do the job pretty well.

BTW, their price for 2x72 AO is $1.70, which ain't bad either.

Thanks Neil, I just ordered their catalog.

T.J. - Any idea what there web address (or phone number) is? I'm guessing Aluminum Oxide belts don't last as long as silicon carbide but right now I'll take what I can get.

I got the sander (Central Machinery 1/2HP 4x36 & 6" disc) for Christams. Next to my wheel grinder and drill press it's the first real tool I have for making knives.

I used to have a supplier that would sell silicon carbide paper in bulk. It included rolls to make sanding belts out of. I'll let you know if I can find them again. I have a 4x36 now too, and I can't find anything but belts for wood so far.

I couldn't find the bulk paper supplier. But I found an old woodworkers supply catalog ( 1998

) that has 4x36 belts in something called zirconia alumina. Its supposed to be ideal for heavy grinding of ferrous and non ferrous metals

They're available in grits 24 -120 for 5-7 dollars each.
Give them a call at 1-800-645-9292 . I hope that numbers still good.
