Does anyone have a source for a 9" (8-7/8") steel disc like the one @Nathan the Machinist sold a while back? I have seen the Nielsen disc system and unfortunately those are out of my price range for the time being. I need the beveled edge as I will be using it for getting into the run-up area of slip joints and a flat face is fine. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

If you have access to a porta band saw and someone with a lathe you can do like I did. I bought 5 of the Smithy 12" steel disc off Ebay and cut them down. They turned out really nice. I took them down to 8 7/8" Feel free to contact me if you want some tips on doing it.

Thanks! I did see your post the other day and did a quick eBay search. I found some discs that were already 9” and may try to go that route. I heard that hot rolled may not be the most desirable to use? Was the steel you used hot rolled? If so, did you have any issue with it?

They seem to be plenty hard to me. I haven't done much with them as of yet. They have a nice RING to them while I was working on them. And threw a few sparks on the lathe, so I am guessing they are tempered to some degree.

On negative about using a steel disc over aluminum is that steel is magnetic. When using the disc to flatten some blades while using my big magnet, the magnet wants to pull the blade into the wheel. Not fun. My wheel is a steel 9" off a vintage craftsman that a buddy gave me.
