Can someone please recommend a source for CPM 154. Is it strictly a Crucible only item, or is there someone in the knifemaking community I can purchase it from? Only need about 3' to start. I know Crucible sells it but when I go to their website it is not there. Also what should I expect to pay for a bar 1-1/2"x 36"x.187 p.g.
Thank you in advance,
Matt Doyle

Crucible will sell to you direct.
Even such a small amount.

I don't have the number handy, but call Scott Devanna in the Texas office.

I get mine from Elizabeth Teglund @ Crucible in NC. The stuff ships from other areas, but she handles the orders for the southeast more or less. Be sure to ask for the GDA stuff, it is already surface ground. the HRA stuff is only descaled.

Hello Matt

I think http://www.popsknifesupplies.com/ has the CPM 154. I have been getting mine from Crucibles Dallas center.
If I remember correctly the 1-1/2 x 36 x .187 p.g. is going to be around $90
But that price is with the purchase of 5 or more pieces.
I hope this helps

Pops has it.

Dohhh. I guess I could've read the post before me. :)

Doubtful, if Pop's price is that high though. I know I bought a piece from him a couple of weeks ago, at the Little Rock show. A piece 1" x 36" x 1/8" cost me $28.

Thank you everyone,
I had checked Pop's website before posting, but it did'nt show any CPM 154. Maybe it just isn't on his website? I'll call him in the morning and see if he still has any.

You can get hold of Kerrie Kengor, the rep from Crucible. It will run about $15-16/pound, so the bar will be a bit cheaper than Pop's (But Pop's is a great guy to deal with. I also think the $90 is wrong.).

I just checked the invoice of the last I purchased from Crucibles Dallas Center 1-23-07 CPM-154 precision ground .187 x 1.5 x 36 $82.19
That price is with the 5 or more piece discount.
Maybe I need to get it somwhere else if this price is out of line.

You won't find it anywhere cheaper than straight from Crucible.

Well, that is still less than $90.
I did the math and for that thickness and all $80-90 seems about right. I was remembering my last sheet of .125 X24X12". Thanks for the price check Charles.

On 12/13/06 I paid $64.81 for a 1/8"x11/2"x36" bar of CPM154 from Crucible. This was ordered with some D2 and another size CPM154. I wonder if there was a price increase Jan.1

I ordered some CPM 154 just last week from Crucible. I got two bars at 3/32~1/4 by 1 1/2" by 36 for 101 including shipping. Remember that there is a $70 minimum order through crucible.

FYI, the piece that I bought from Pops is not precision ground. That explains why my price wasn't nearly as high; you pay a pretty high premium for the precision ground stuff.

I bought a piece of Crucible 154 CM 5/32" X 1 1/2" X 3' from Pop for around $45. You have to call him though to see that he has it. He carries a good supply of Crucible steel. Hatachi is been a real PIA to buy from.

To all who replied,
Just an update...Pop's does carry cpm 154, though it is not on their website. I purchased a bar 3/16"x 2"x36" for 65$ from Pop's. I do not believe it to be p.g. That price is a fair bit cheaper than admiral @157 for 72". I did not check the current prices from crucible. I would rather buy off someone in the knifemaking community even if at a higher cost. K&g also sells cpm 154 but not in sizes over .125.
Thanks again for the replies,
Matt Doyle
