SO I just finished a lockback (below) with some damascus I made at a friend's place. I don't have any more, and don't have the setup to make any more. This folder has gotten a lot of attention, however, and I've had several requests to make more of them with damascus. I'm amenable to that idea, so I've looked at all the regular guys that I know are good to deal with (Devin Thomas, Chad Nichols, Randy Haas), and their selection of thin damascus stock is pretty limited. I'm open to suggestions for others, or if you have some you're willing to part with (appx. 3/32 x whatever) I may also be interested. Carbon or stainless is fine. I prefer simpler patterns. Precision ground or the option for it is preferred.

I'd call Devin Thomas. He likely has stock that's not on his site. And since he's into kitchen knives he likely has thin stock on hand. It's also just good to talk to Devin...

Yep, I've got a lot of 3/32" stock from Devin. Call him up and he'll make you anything you want.

Might check with Mike Norris also. Stainless, good patterns with clean welds. I think he can do some of his patterns in 3/32. There's a list on his website. And he likes to bow hunt, which is a plus.

Go to Jantz for Mike Norris Damascus. I've used a lot of this which is stainless and have it heat treated properly. Man, it's a real cutter !!! Also very good to work.

Alabama Damascus will have it fro, 1/16" on up

I rarely post negative comments about suppliers products, but I have ben very disappointed with the Alabama damascus AI have seen ion the last several years. I and a friend have probably bought $2000 worth of it, and nearly every piece is flawed with delams and inclusions. Here is a photo of a blade my friend just did. We had to grnd it down from 1/8" to about .08 to get past the bad area. Many are irreparable with blisters coming up in HT or the delams going all the way down the blade.

I know the guys who sell it and they are fine folks. The product just isn't what it used to be.

Funny: I have been using it for a few years and have never had an inclusion. Made 15 folders out of it in the past 45 days of so. Maybe lucky.........maybe Stacy received a bad batch for whatever reason. Who knows?

I wasn't going to say anything, but I've had the same experience. I just sold my remaining stock at a discount just to have it out of my shop.

Looks like Mike Norris and Devin Thomas are the go-to guys for reliable stainless. Anyone have any suggestions for carbon?

Zoe Crist also. Stainless, carbon, san mai, etc.. Like myself, he focuses on more complex patterns, end grains, mosaics, etc. Not the cheapest game in town, but I know he's not trying to be.

Probably best to find him on facebook, I don't think his website gets updated much, and doesn't have much on stainless.
