I've thumbed through the Jantz supply catalog, and have not been too impressed. My father in law orders blades now and then for little knife projects, and I have not been too impressed with what I've seen from them.

Where can I order perfectly finished blades for folders in steels like 154cm, or even VG-10?

I don't think that you can buy just a folder blade, since most novice makers don't know how to design a working mechanism around the blade. Perfectly finished blades would require a lot more time from the manufacturer and thus cost a lot more money.

I don't think that any of the supply companies supply blades in VG-10 or 154CM?

There are a lot of other supply companies like:
Texas knifemakers supply
knifekits.com
Sheffields supply
Knife and Gun finishing supplies

I live fairly close to jantz and go to their showroom to pick up my supplies. I have always had good luck with them. I think most of the bigger knife suppliers have the same blades but use different names for them. As for folders, I haven't seen any blades sold by themselves. I think I've seen Darryl Ralph has some nice folder kits. I think he has a website, and also texas knife supply carries his brand I think. If you can design a lock mechanism around a premade blade, then you should have enough skill to make your own blade too. I find the blade easier to make than the rest of the knife.

If you want to try damascus, Grand Leavitt at gdleavitt@cableone.net does some beautiful damascus blades. I know he does folder blades. Look on ebay under snakeriverknives. kdc

Makes you wish the old House of Muzzleloading / Blades and Stuff was still around. Bob Egnath had some really high end stuff and could grind like nobody else I've ever seen.

Bob's memories live on. I have several blades Bob made for me almost 20 years ago. I can't bring myself to finish them. It's like anything I might add would take away from Bob artistry in the steel. No, they are not for sale. Like my two copies of his catalog, they are prized possessions. -Doug

Jantz does have blades made of VG10 -Folder kit (VG10 blade titanium or stainless liners. Make your own handles or purchase the preshaped handles from several different woods. VG10 fixed blades (Japanese cutlery) VG10 is a laminated steel made only in Japan. The steel is not available for sale in the US currently. 154CM is a US steel. The blade steel is available from Jantz Supply - No blades of CM154 currently available. These are usually only made on a custom basis by knifemakers. Contact Jantz for a current catalog if yours does not have the VG-10 blades listed or download a copy at www.jantzsupply.com

I know what you mean. I have two of Bob's blades sitting in my cabinet in the shop. I feel guilty, cuz I know Bob would rather I finish them. We were working on a design together that was going to be a birthday present from my now ex. She asked me to put it off for a bit, so I did. When she had the money, I ordered the ATS-34, had talked to Bob about the modifications I wanted to one of his standard blades, John's Bowie I believe; in 1/4" ATS-34. I called to let him know I was going to ship him the steel and the check for the agreed price. Stevie answered the phone. I asked to speak to Bob. She was quiet for a moment. Then she said, "I'm sorry, Bob passed away this morning". I said how sorry I was, and got off the phone.

I got some California Buckeye Burl for one of the blades this spring, but the figure was weak, the other has had a pair of half finished slabs of stabilized Rhododendron Burl that has been dyed blue, waitn to get finshed for a few years. And no, they are not for sale.
