I have been using a one brick forge for heat treating, but I am working on making a new one. I want to have a tube down the center to even out the heat (having issues with hot spots with the one brick forge). I am having a hard time locating a tube (or pipe) for this purpose (I have the forge body tube covered).

I got the idea from Tai Goo (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v453/taigoo/?action=view&current=Mufflefurnace008a-1.jpg) but I will be using a propane torch or burner instead of coal.

Does anyone know of any online sources for this type of pipe? Also, would a thicker or thinner pipe wall be better? I could probably get a section of muffler 16 or so inches long if that gage steel was thick enough. but I dont want to spend the money on that if it isnt going to work.

Thanks for your help

go down to the local steel provider (if you have one) and se if they have any scraps of tubing or pipe. Should be able to pick up6 inches or so for a couple of bucks. They may even give it to you. Do not get galvinized pipe, go for mild steel or stainless. Good luck

Not sure how big a diameter you need. If it's in the 3-4" range ask some of the local HVAC shops for a piece of radiant heater tube.

If you need something quick, then go to a local place that muffler and tailpipe work. You might be able to get some shorts for free. They won't last long, maybe 10 HT cycles, but if the price is right they will work.
Thanks,

If you filled out your profile ,we might know where you are. Could be Poland, Ukraine, or next door?

Try the local scrap yards. They usually have lots of what you are looking for. I just picked up some stainless schedule 80 and schedule 120 forge muffle pipe for scrap price.
