I got a phone call from someone wanting a very large piece of damascus. He wants a piece 12" X 20" and would like it to be 3/8" thick but would settle for 1/4" if that is all he can get.

I suggested Alabama damascus. Does anyone else know of someone that might be able to produce something this size?

I explained to him that this was an extremely large piece and would be pricy but he said it's for a customer and he knew it would be costly. I guess he has someone who is wanting a battle axe of some sort and he wants it out of damascus.

It's not really my thing but I told him I'd ask to see if anyone could point him towards a source.

Thanks,
SDS

Cool link, Mete. I saw that monster billet on a forum somewhere a while back. Got to be the largest one ever made. The guy is a pattern welded freak for sure :)

Wow, that 7dwarfs thing is ......... crazy.

I'll pass along that website and I'll also suggest he call Rob Thomas.

I really didn't figure I'd find a source but I said I'd look so I asked anyway.

Thanks,

Well I see Joe Mandt (jdm61) has his Carlisle press up and running.

I think you should have your friend put Joe through his paces and knock out that billet  :D :p

Thanks for the link on the 7dwarfs damascus project. I'd seen that on Fogg's forum quite some time ago and had forgotten about it. That is a huge, ridiculous, but also ridiculously COOL project! :D One of those things that's cool just to know it's possible :)
