I found a company that is trying to get rid of some new 1.5 hp motors for $20. There is nothing wrong with them, apparently, they are simply taking up warehouse space. They are out of manufacturers warranty, probably due to the fact that Marathon doesn't make this specific model anymore. The company selling them is a well known national industrial parts supplier, and they said that they are brand new.

Specs are as follows:
Brand - Marathon
1.5 hp
3600 rpm
115/208V
Single Phase
TEFC
56C style case

I have one coming in the mail. Only cost me $45 after shipping and tax. I'll let everyone know if they are the real deal when it comes in. However, if any one would like to buy one from them in the meantime, e-mail me and I'll send you the information. I'd rather not post the details until after I've recieved it, just incase these motors aren't what they say they are. That way other's won't get screwed. I'm pretty sure, however, its a go.

An enterprising person could resell them on Ebay, or here, for 4-5 times the cost.

3600 RPM is kinda high for knifemaking purposes.

1725 RPM is better, but I guess you could use step pulleys to slow it down.... but it may still be too fast for most people.

Just my .02 cents.

Yeah i would probably take one I just spent 3 times that at HF.
Send me some info. Thank You
TJ

For those who e-mailed me, about a dozen or so, you won't be able to order them until monday. I forgot to mention that.

There were eleven in stock before I ordered mine.

Good luck!

Well, I got my motor in and hooked up. It's the real deal guys. Brand new and still in original packaging, for only $20 before shipping. Total with tax and shipping came to about $50.

If you'd like to get one, here's the information.

Ask to talk to Rita in Sales, she'll take your order

Item#: 60706496
Description: MTR-1.5HP, 3600R, TEFC, 115/230V, 1-60, 56C

Motor speed doesn't matter so much, even without step pulleys. There's no hard, fast rule that says you've got to run a 4" drive wheel. Baders run 3450.

I got three from the same place and they ended up costing me $89 a piece and she told me she had only 4 left. I think I got screwed.:jerkit::jerkit:

IG, that's f'd up. They must have realized they could get more for them. Sorry about that. They were really helpful for me.

It's probably like bjalongi said. "Wow, we have sold 7 of these in the last 3 days. I bet we could get more for them."

You gonna hook up 3 in a row George? Bet that's one heck of a machine.:D
