Tired of fooling around (Wasting Money & Time) trying to do Homemade Micarta...Anybody know where to get some Phenolic Resin and hardener?

Google search was fruitless, for me anyway:D

Sorry brainfart happened, just saw Micarta and spat out the resin I use for lamination including fiberglass, carbon fibre, and cotton, never done any paper composites. Composites can use phenolic, epoxy, silicone, or melamine resin as a binder.

For phenolic resins heres what google spat up

http://www.ides.com/generics/Phenolic/Phenolic_suppliers.htm

closest to Arizona would be texas?

Durez Corporation 800-733-3339 TX USA
Durez® Phenolic
Dynaset Phenolic
Sumikon® Phenolic

to do a piece about 5 X 10 inches would require a 30 ton press, a way to heat the platens and monitor the internal temperature of the laminate...
Epoxy is easier. No need to heat the platens to over 300F. Just get it above room temperature, and press it.

Phenolic resins are not home use products.
That is why I always say it is not "Micarta" these home laminators are making. It is a "epoxy laminated material". Fun to make, but definitely not Micarta.

I've been around long enough to not disagree with Stacy, so I'll just offer my past experience as an alternative, or to stimulate further discussion.

Back in the 70's I used Weldwood Plastic resin glue building boats. We called it "phenolic resin."

I've also used Unibond 800 (highland hardware) lately to do veneer vacuum bagging. Again I remember the term phenolic being used. The manufactures certainly call it something else, but maybe for a home workshop the Unibond would do what you want.

There is also a more environmentally friendly product sold by Joewoodworker.com that has replaced the Unibond.

Let us know if you find something that suits your needs.

I think ,if you check closely, that you will find that Unibond is an urea-formaldehyde glue. Weldwood plastic resin is a resorcinol glue, IIRC.
Stacy

Nope, It is a urea-formaldehyde resin,too.
