Source for Puukkos and similar knives?

Hello Jouni! One day I hope to acquire the knife named after you! It's a real beauty.
So are the KP knives still made the same traditional way? I'm sure they are. But what exactly is "silver steel"? It is incredible stuff, but sp far I haven't put its corrosion resistance to the test. How "stain resistant" is it? Can I risk using it around salt water? And when is your next sale on the Jounis [or big Pokaras]?

Hello HJK, I'm very pleced you like Jouni-knives. In fact there are two "Jouni"s. Both of them I designed at the same time, about seven years ago. They resembled each other. The M2136 is a contemporory, modern Lapland-style (Saami)knife. The handle is of reindeer antler and arctic curley birch. The blade is of forged stainless steel. This Jouni is reasonably priced. This is not for sale in Finland at all.
The T90 and T91 are the same knives in two different sizes. The materials are of arctic deer, root burl of raita-wood and silver steel. I did not make any compromises with this Jouni. My goal was to design the knife that is a beautiful, ultimate blade, unique comfortable handle and have tailor fitted leather sheath. I did not compromise with the price eather, so it is expensive. It is for the people who like to have the best and beautiful cutting tool. Delivering time for this is now about 10 months.
Silver steel is an old German steel that KP-family has used for three generations. The secret of the sharpness is in forging and quenching. KP-smithy has tested numerous steels and tests all the time but has not found a better edge forming steel. It will corode in humid and salty conditions. You can use it around salty water but you have to wipe it dry right after use and protect the blade with stuff like TufCloth.
I do not know when we will have a sale for Jouni or Pokara.

Thank your, HJK, for asking.

Welcome, Jouni.

I see my message to you and Harriet got through.

I think you'll find many fans and admirers of the puukko here and I hope you'll find it a good source of information and perhaps business.

A Kellam Forum might be a welcome addition to BladeForums. (Something to think about.)

Best,

Blues

Hello Blues. It is all to your credit!

Thank you for your suggestion. Jim Mattis suggested also a couple of times, but I was wondering about the time question thinking that might limit my contribution. Already now Harriet made a remark that now she does not get me home at all when I'm sitting at night by the computer at the office. It was much easier for me to answer by phone about Finnish knives to Jim Mattis when he was around writing. He made pioneering work.
I believe this will be fun for me but I'm not sure about my wife...

Thanks, Blues,

Another internet source I have found for Finnish knives is http://www.finpro.net
I do not have any experience buying from them (yet), but they do have several pages of puukkos to drool over, as well as other Finnish goods.
