Source for rubber scales?

Anyone know where to get some neoprene scales 3/8" x 2" x 5"? I'm making a comp cutter style bowie and thought that neoprene scales on a full tang knife would be a good idea (absorbs shock and grippy).

Thanks! :)

I got mine from texas knifemakers supply. I think they were about the size you describe. I ended up using a weird automotive adhesive with it. It felxes, so you dont want rigid epoxy holding it on or it will want to pop. The way neoprene closes up around a drilled hole, you hardly need epoxy after driving the pins in.

Some of the folks are using horse trailer mats that have saw dust mixed into the rubber. I use shoe sole material from my shoe repair man. Both are much cheaper sources than the knife supply houses...Take Care...Ed

Thanks for the replies!

I also just checked out MSC Industrial Supply and you can get various sizes up to 0.5" thick in large 12" x 12" sheets for approx. $12.

you could use a tire, the recapped type you would find on the side of the road from a semi. My dad said he saw a guy at work with a tire scale on his knife.

I've been thinking about getting used racing slicks for this. That way I get the good tire rubber but without the tread paters to worry about.

I work for an orthopadic-shoemaker.
We have lots of different kinds of rubber materials, we use.
The stuff isn't expensive, see if there is one near your aeria
