Hi,
I hope to grind out a heavy duty camp sword/machete using 5160 in 1/8" stock. After seeing the now discontinued Aranyik latin machete, I would like to make something very similar. 5160 has always been my choice for hard use and high impact blades but it seems that the auto industry has dictated the thickness to 1/4". Is there any possible way to get 5160 in less than 1/4" aside from surface grinding or forging it down?
If there is no reasonable solution to thin 5160, are there other steels that would perform as well or better?
Thanks,
Josh
