Anybody know of a source for 3/4" wide, 3/32" thick 4140, either precision ground or mill finished? I've looked around and all I could find was 1/4" or thicker. Would love to be able to get it in say 45 rockwell hardness. This would potentially be op rods for BAR rifles. Just finished one today from O-1 since there are non to be found anywhere and got to thinking about making a few out of 4140 and having them water jet cut.

Also, as an aside, anybody ever tried forge welding it to high carbon steel? Just thinking of using the drops in frontier damascus, not a critical requirement.

Thanks

It's pricey, but McMaster Carr has it in that thickness.

I have seen billets from India being sold at gun/knife shows with 4140 in the mix. Claimed to be, at any rate. :)

Thanks, I looked at McMaster Carr and didn't see it, guess I didn't scroll down far enough. They list it as C26 hardness, not sure I understand how they figure that's hardened?
