I have been thinking of making a knife or 7 for a good while now. I've decided that the steel shall be cpm3v as the title suggests. I'm extremely new to the art of knife making, so all help is appreciated.

I haven't had much time to google fu sources of this awesome steel. I'm Hoping someone here can give me a quick nudge in the right direction.

I'm looking for stock somewhere between 3/16-1/4" thick. The final product will ideally be 3/16" thick.

Also having trouble finding time to research heat treatment services. Idk if there's someone here to talk to or what.

I won't have time to start for around a month or so. Until then I'll be figuring out the details, so any trails of breadcrumbs will be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

3V is my overall favorite steel for knives large or small. I almost always get my CPM3V from either New Jersey Steel Baron or Alpha Knife Supply. I have my blades heat-treated by Peters'.

I have to agree with JT's statement above....Chuck at Alpha Knife Supply is also a wealth of knowledge for all the other essential parts you will need to complete the project and when you research the Steel he has the proper heat treat criteria listed and if you intend to send it out for Heat Treat you will at least know what is required and have an idea of what Hardness is attainable.

Best of Luck...
