anyone know a relatively inexpensive place to get a piece of antler? roughly 4-5 inches long...ALot of places I've found on the net sell them in lots..but I's like to see how my first rehandling project works out before I spring for a box of deer antler...besides My wife says I'm horny enough...(crowd sighs in disgust)

Blatant begging does get you somewhere in life, never should've listened to my folks.....

last time I checked there was a difference between asking direction and begging but thanks for playing.

I am looking forward to taking some of mine and making me some of them Ron Hood type coat buttons. :) I would have give you a piece but someone else beat me to it.

Thanks for all the help guys... example like this are one of the many things that make this such a great place.

Reason I was being sarcastic was what happened to me a few years ago......I had spent big coin to go to Africa on a Big game hunt, and all of my buddies who could'nt afford to go were all over it. Before i left they wanted this and that, you know. So I'm there and get 7 warthogs with decent tusks, donate the meat to the locals as is custom, tried it but it was'nt for me. Not saying warthog is one of the Big game, but we had the opportunity to get them and did. Long of the short I get back and have the tusks pairs out and set aside a favorite pair for myself, and put the box aside to hand out to my buddies. The then girlfriend was cleaning up the place, saw the set of tusks out, saw the box, and 'did me a favor by putting them back in'. Next day I'm not thinking about it, take the box, go out with everyone showing pics drinking, handing out pairs of tusks with every round of drinks.....next thing I know the box is empty so I call it a night. A few days go by and i ask the girlfriend where MY set of Tusks are? Last time we spoke.....After shelling out almost 10K, and only wanting a pair of tusks for myself to use for a matched set of knife handles, and I'm the one left with zilch!!! Could'nt rightly ask anyone for their set back as I handed them out as gifts. I did cut back on drinking after that, and never drink when I have my knives with me for fear of giving one of them away!! So, I was being sarcastic because I guess it still hurts to hear anything like that request.....

tracker-- what a bummer man.. i would be pissed...

you should bring your knives by sometime, we can have a few beers....:D

just kidding................ i actually don't drink at all...:)

The problem with "antler" is that most types either don't look very good or they don't make very strong knife handles or both. There is a reason that Sambar stag is so expensive. There ain't much of it out there right now and it it far and away the best choice. Elk is not supposed to be bad, but it be ugly...lol.

Well guess it's a good thing I didn't ask for a whole rack.. who know's what would've happened?....(my turn to be sarcastic) Truly though I'm sorry for your bad experience...as the people who contacted me can attest to I was not looking for a handout...I just didn't want 30 pieces of antler when I only needed 1....going to Africa has always been a dream of mine...Too bad about the tusks, Thanks Norcal ... Cheers! Alco I'll try them in the future They didn't come up in my search..
