Sourcing a large quantity of ELMAX

So on that note I just got MSC to quote 984 belts for me. For what it's worth we get cubitron flap discs from them about half price.

They can't even reach Pops price on belts.

The most I have ever dropped on a single lot was 4.5k of mixed burls and lumber. At the time that was about 90% of all my money...

But I managed to put away a few things to sell for when I go to grad school or have an emergency. Things like snakewood burl, Fiddle back brazillian rosewood, Koa burl, and a rosewood hybrid of Kingwood and cocobolo :)

Sometimes you just have to pay up
 
if your order calls for 500lb or more Carpenter steel cnan get youo your alloy. i split a run with another maker but was kind of tricky and im not sure how its going to go for taxes but it still was a ngood deal price per lb

Hmmm, please consider that I forged my first knife over 30 years ago, that's when some of you still were playing with bows and arrows

I deliberately chose corporate life instead and kept blade smithing as a hobby, there's good and bad with everything. A good thing is that I can afford an expensive hobby when I retire, a bad thing is that I got so damaged by corporate life that I must get my hobby and the work I put in to make economical sense or I won't feel happy doing it :upset:

I like to make a bit bigger knives and the steel cost for the high end steels I like will be close to USD 40 per knife, not much to do about it. I'll continue to look for savings in the other areas that you recommended. Good information about belts, thanks
