Hi all, I've been looking at your site for info on a knife I inherited, what a friendly and helpful bunch you seem to be. My sister asked if there was anything of our recently deceased dad's that I wanted as a keepsake and I chose what I only remembered as his well made big black knife from when I saw it last nearly 30 years ago. Imagine my delight when I looked up the only clues, logo "CR" and "South Africa", then found a very helpful post here describing them - my big black knife has turned in to a possibly rare SA made Chris Reeve Jereboam II #123 (I even like the number) and I'm thrilled. I have the sheath which looks perfect, unfortunately the knife has a few discoloured patches on the spine that must be rust under the black coating and I don't have the box or birth certificate but I have no interest in selling it. Does anyone know how many Jereboam IIs were made, I think I read 297 somewhere but I may be thinking of another model? I would appreciate an idea of value to enhance my story about Dad's knife, can anyone help with that please? "Cadillac of knives" - love it. Any help, information or opinions are welcome. Cheers, Ross

It’s against forum rules for is to give a monetary value of a knife to anyone below a Gold membership.

However the knife you have is considered very valuable to any knife collector and especially for Chris Reeve collectors. Basically any older Chris Reeve is considered valuable with his South African stuff being considered the most so. Obviously the better condition the knife is in the more valuable it will be.

That said it sounds like nothing will compare to the sentimental value of having your father’s treasured knife. Obviously he had excellent taste in blades. The wear one’s father puts on the knife in a way makes it even more sentimentally valuable than a knife one’s father owned but never actually carried/used.

Sorry for the loss of your father but congratulations on the excellent knife. Of course even a crappy knife will be treasured if it belonged to one’s dad. How much sweeter it is when your dad’s knife is a Chris Reeve.

Sorry for breaking your rule about valuations, I wasn't aware of it and wouldn't have asked had I known. Thanks to those who replied thus far, I'll take some pics today and post them this evening.

Ross if you send the knife back to the factory they will strip off and recoat and resharpen it.
But....... the coating used now is a lighter grey and my recommendation would be to leave the coating as is.
There are some FB Chris reeve pages that you could join and ask for price recommendations too.

Here's one pic for just now, I'm having to learn Pinterest before getting further and food beckons

Lapedog Lapedog - Yes, he bought it to use it - Practical Shotgun and various handgun disciplines, he loved traipsing about the woods with his CRK on his hip. It was kept in his gun case and was cared for just as much but when he got unsteady on his feet and didn't want to become a liability he sold everything except the knife which got put in his toolbox to rust.
@nickpp - I saw a post saying CRK sandblast and recoat for $30 but how much it is now I don't know and postage to and from the UK would be brutal. Thanks for the heads-up that it's grey rather than black these days. Sandblasting might not be enough for the rust, at least its not been sharpened freehand with an angle grinder.

There you go guys, I hope you find it interesting.
Shame about the rust, eh?
Can anyone tell me how the paracord lanyard was meant to be used please?
