South African - Jereboam II - approx value poor/ average / mint please?

I said thanks for the fix Lapedog, I wasn't claiming I'd had the time to do it though.

Sorry I misunderstood.

Now that I see the picture I can say there is nothing I can think of that will remedy that rust problem short of refinishing the whole knife. Some other more knowledgable members may be able to help though.

Also are you sure it is rust or could it just be discolouration?

I agree, if you want it to look pristine a trip back to CRKs is the only answer.
I’m UK too, it shouldn’t cost crazy money to get it shipped. I’ve done it a few times.....
I will be going over in November if you want to save the UK fees. Send me a PM.

Thanks fellas, I can see a thin line of orange in a corner of the sheath so yeah - rust! It'd be interesting to know how rusting has been dealt with before and if blasting / recoating deals with it, I'll ask around some if no-one here has any experience of it. I'd feel dishonest faking it up so may leave it as it is and whoever gets it when I kick the bucket can worry about that. I've only just inherited it and my two impoverished sisters have yet to learn it has value so anything could happen.

nickpp nickpp - I forgot to thank you for your offer to take it over the pond, you're very kind. Do you remember what you paid when you sent them over before, and do you know of a particular email address at CRK for such enquiries please? If anyone will know by looking at the pics they will.

CRK reckon they've seen much worse that have restored well but the corroded spots may show a mark through the paint. $30 / £24 to restore (bargain!) and they guesstimate $75 to return it so presumably the same to send it comes to $180 or £145 at today's rates.
I'm going to go for it, whether I keep it or I end up selling it, it needs doing as leaving would be doing it no favours - I'll post some "after" pics.
FYI - there were 348 Jereboam IIs made in South Africa.
CRK's Alycia was super-quick in replying to my emails and what she didn't know she asked the guy that does the work and Anne for the answers, she answered everything I asked.

Ross your knife was probably made around '89-'90. It's almost certainly made from A2.

It was originally called the Shadow I. The first ones (spear point in small/medium/large) where designed and made as prizes for a UK gun/knife magazine in 1987 if my memory serves. (may have been '88)

This one looks like its been used and well carried. As an investment I would keep it original.
However if it was my knife I would have CRK refurbish it. It will look beautiful with a new finish. And I like my stuff pristine!;)
Refurbishing it may slightly lower its collectors value but if its done by CRK I can't see it affecting the value by much.

Its a great piece of CRK history. Enjoy!!:)

79C5A4F7-93A1-4CA1-8AED-0D21155429F5.jpeg Beautiful Blade. It’s actually A Shadow I, not a Jereboam II. The Shadow’s were spearpoints while the Jereboams were clip points, or more a Bowie style. The Shadow I is among my favorite blades CRK ever made. I personally would leave it original. The coating on the old ones were more of a bluing while the newer coating is thicker like you see on some current blades. I added one of my old pics. Top-Bottom. Shadow I, Shadow I, Jereboam I, Tanto I. Just an awesome piece and Thanks for sharing.

When you ship it mark it CRK not Chris Reeve Knives....
Also if you get asked what’s in the package just say tool or vintage tool. I wouldn’t have thought the Post Office will charge more than £20 -30 to send it. Also ask CRKs to mark it as warranty repairs or something like that and you should avoid import duties on the return.

Thanks for the information guys, you're all very helpful and keeping this interesting. The info about it originally being a Shadow I for example I've asked CRK to see what they can tell me about that, you're the man to know with that collection nyefmaker - a bevy of beauties.
Steven65 spotted it as a Shadow I too, thanks for sharing your experience and opinions.
That sounds like good advice re- posting nickpp, thanks for that. I wondered about the $75 CRK charge to return them, £20-£30 does seem more like it, they said "There will be a return shipping fee of about $60-95 to the UK, depending on the size of the USPS Flat Rate box that it is sent back in. My guess is that it will fit in the Medium Flat Rate box, which would then be $75.00 for shipping".
