Southard handle not long enough.................

I see... so this is just a vent thread. Thats cool, we all need to vent at times.

I'm not venting at all. I just wish the handle was another .25-.33 longer that's all. I've never had a knife with the tip of the blade only .100 shorter than the end

of the handle. It's hard for me to imagine the handle couldn't have been made a little longer:D

I think this is the first thread I've seen saying that the Southard was too small...there have been probably half a dozen threads saying it's too big... :D In the end, that's why there are lots of knives in the Spyderco catalog and lots of other knife makers! ;)

I have big mitts, the Southard doesn't quite fill it but close enough and its comfortable in my hand. Heck, I carry a Leafstorm often, now that's small but I have no problem with it, either. I stopped by a local shop yesterday and handled a Manix 2 XL, now that's a handful and then some, it's way bigger than I expected. I want it......

But then all the guys with little hands would complain that they wish the knife had a smaller handle. I think it really comes down to that no matter what, a production knife isnt going to appeal to everyone in ever aspect. Thats the essence of a production knife though. You have to remember production knives are marketed towards the largest audience they can be targeted to. Which means your average production knife will mostly appeal to the average sized person. I know how it is to just wish something was a tad different but seriously? If they were to change anything to appeal to you then they probably would alienate another customer. As they say it simply is what it is.

I have small hands, and find that the handles on most knives over 3.5 are too big. Fox karambits are made for huge hands or people wearing gloves, as are most karambits, so very little out there for small hands. The Southard is my favorite knife right now. Just wish it had an Emerson wave, and the jimping were a little sharper.

You can get a finger choil mod to choke up on the knife...

What, and ruin the looks of a Fantastic Knife.:)

IMO the Southard is 1 of The Best knives Sypderco has ever made!!!

With a little help from Brad Southard..............

When I order mine, I didn't really pay attention to the specs, other than blade length. I was surprised at how small it was and think it more leaning towards a "gents" flipper. I like how they got that blade length into such a compact package. I have medium hands and it's perfect for me, I definitely think it may not work as well with large + glove sizes.
