Does anyone have opinions regarding the Southern Grind folders, specifically the Spider Monkey ? Thanks

Don't know about the Spider Monkey specifically, but the two Bad Monkeys I have had have been top notch. I have never heard anything bad about the knife design or implementation, but some are not fond of the blade steel for the price (remedied in the Spider Monkey). From everything I have seen the company owner Zac Brown is a stand up guy who donates the profits to charity I believe.

The Bad Monkey I have is a fantastic knife. CF scales, thick TI liners and the F/F is fantastic. I know there was a lot of grief directed at Southern Grind for steel choice on the Bad Monkey using 14C28N but they must have the heat treat for it spot on because the edge holding on mine is great. Mine has cut cardboard, stretch film, plastic banding and opened a couple of those hard plastic blister packages and has not needed anything more than a loaded strop to bring it back.

So in short, yes I like them. Have a Bad Monkey and looking forward to getting a Spider Monkey.

I have the Spider Monkey and I love it. The fit and finish is some of the best I have seen from a production knife. It's better than some mid-techs I have owned, and I have owned quite a few. The knife opens smooth, has good ergos for a smaller knife, and S35VN is a good all around steel that I have had good experience with. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Thanks, everyone. I guess 100% positive feedback is as good as it gets. I see a Spider Monkey in my future.

I just got a Bad Monkey in the mail a couple days ago-pretty impressed. Took me a while to get te edge where I wanted it, but it's very nicely executed. Looked at them quite a bit at Blade this year.

I too have a spider monkey

I'm usually not a coated blade guy but I bought the first one I saw. I have no patience. Love love love the knife. Well designed, well execute and well done

We have sold a good number of Spider Monkeys and only had one complaint. The one complaint was on the finish of the very end of the Carbon Fiber Scale. Our customer contacted Southern Grind who ended up over nighting a new knife and leaving our customer ecstatic. Southern Grind makes a fantastic blade and they back it up with top notch customer service! Based on the feedback we have always gotten, You will be pleased!

I will agree with everyone else here, the Spider Monkey is a phenomenal knife. I have one with a satin blade I picked up at Blade Show and I have 2 Bad Monkeys, both in drop point; one satin and one black. The satin Bad Monkey has seen the most use and the steel has held up very well. A lot of people will give it low marks because of the blade steel that they use for it. It is not considered a super steel but for me it has served me just fine. I cut a lot of zip ties and blister packs at work myself and in my experience the 14c38n they use it very easy to maintain with a strop. Southern Grind has some of the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with also.

My Spider Monkey really doesn't get carried enough. It mostly is my Sunday/dress carry knife and hands down the best I have found for this role for me. It is crazy comfortable in hand, as far as I can tell perfect fit/finish, with a very sharp and even edge grind. The only reason I don't carry it as much is because I tend to prefer a slightly larger knife.

Man, I didn't realize the size difference between the Bad and Spider!

Great looking knives, guys!

Oh yea man, I knew it was gonna be smaller but when I got to the booth and got it in hand it was a shock. Fits surprisingly well for its size. In hand shot:

On the flip side the Bad Monkey is rather large haha.

Excellent! Just the kind of shot I was bound to ask for ;)
