Close to pulling the trigger. Just wondering what alternatives I might check out before making it final. I did consider the ZT0450 but decided I don't like the blade shape too pointy/stabby. Just want a nice EDC knife for the usual stuff....

Main reasons I'm buying:
lightweight
perfect size
looks nice :p
checked out a friend's bad monkey and liked what i saw/felt. But it's a tad too big and 14c28@that price point...

Things I like but not essential
CF scales
MUSA
sorta unique

I would say the Benchmade 940-1 might be one to look at! Truthfully the Spider Monkey is a great knife so if you are leaning that way I would not work too hard trying to talk yourself out of one!

I've been carrying my BM 484-1 a lot lately. Not my pic:

Stumbled across this awesome selection of comparo pics: http://mulpix.com/instagram/spidermonkey_monkey_spider_southerngrind.html

I just picked up a SG SM. Nothing really seemed like an alternative for me, its quite unique on its own. I was however considering a 940-1 and 0450cf during the decision as well but will likely get those after. Liner lock, beautiful cf scales, stonewash, drop point and sick a$$ monkey . Idk what else hits that criteria. Im probably never going to sell mine for these reasons.

thanks for the suggestions. Both nice but I'm trying to keep it ~200. I think I am going to buy the SM. I like thumb ramps as the nakamura and the SM have. Don't think I'd like the downward/flat spot where the jimping is on the 0450.

I got mine yesterday. Only thing that I didn't initially like was the lockup feel because I've been so used to titanium frame locks, not liners. Upon closer inspection, it's an incredibly solid and has an early lock up. Blade shape, weight, cf scales and the finger choil are things that I really appreciated once the knife was in hand. Hope you like yours!

Love the Spider Monkey.

The rear of the knife is well scalloped, making it easy to unclip. This fades to smoother c.f. towards the front.

I really love the pocket clip. I am extremely picky in this regard. Either they are too long, come loose, or are weak and get bent easily.

This is short and very stout. It's also a low ride clip. Yes it takes some force to unclip, but that is much better than being loose.

Despite its light weight, it can handle medium to heavy duty tasks.

I've had mine just over a year, and it just now needs sharpening.

Get one, you won't regret it.

feel like for $20 more you can get the ZT 0562cf.

Guess it depends on your preference. Liner lock vs frame lock, thumbs studs vs flipper. Both beautiful.

Can anyone comment on the action of the Spider Monkey? Easy/fun to flick open?

Very nice action, especially once broken in. Has a nice "snick" upon lock up.

I generally do not like thumbstuds, but these are very well executed.

I like the 484-1, but for the thumbstuds. I almost bought one while holding one, but my large thumb couldn't open it well.

The quality control of Benchmade also makes me leery.

Yes you can get ZT and Benchmade with c.f. and better steel, but imo they do not exude the same quality. To me, SG is just on a different level than regular production knives.

I bought the tanto spider monkey from Whitty and love it. super lightweight and exceptional build quality.

just an option, but I found a Kershaw piston which is a very comfortable EDC in 14c28 and G-10 and I love it. a lot less expensive and it's a hell of a knife... I don't think you'll ever really be disappointed with 14c28. it's tough, takes and holds a great edge and is easy enough to resharpen with whatever you have on you.
