Southern Grind

Hi! I am very happy with my SG Spider Monkey. I love this little one . Wrote my thoughts about it here, sometimes ago. Don’t own a ZT (yet :D), so I can’t really compare. But if you like a SG, go for it! Here’s mine:

The Spider Monkey looks great. Hopefully they will introduce the same customisation options on their website as the Bad Monkey.

That jade G10 looks great.

I love my Bad Monkey. Fit and finish is outstanding and it is a very tough work blade. Also, their customer service is excellent as well. I sent mine in to have the lockbar carbodized and asked about the jade green scales. They did the lockbar, sharpened the blade, put all new hardware on it and threw the scales on the knife for $20. Pretty sweet.

As others have said, the fit and finish are excellent on my Spider Monkey. I wouldn't mind it being slightly bigger, but it is a great EDC knife. I've been selling several knives lately to fund my recent fixed blade/Fiddleback addiction, and it hasn't even crossed my mind to get rid of the Spider Monkey.

I would love to try one of these, but unfortunately I'm much too cheap. :) They look awesome, and I'm glad to hear mostly great reviews.

What was the problem with your lockbar?

I love my Monkeys! I have one Spider and 2 Bad. I carry the Bad in satin the most and it sees a good bit of use, probably my most used blade. The Spider Monkey is my dress/gentleman carry knife. I have been nothing but impressed with everyone I have talked to at Southern Grind and I recommend everyone at least give them a try.

Any chance of a pic of them all together shandrydan?

I really like my Bad Monkey. Rock solid, very sharp and really nicely executed.
I swapped out the short clip for a spare Emerson clip just because for me the long clip is part of the draw, but that's just personal preference. I love the idea and the look of the short clip.

How resilient is the black coating to scuffing/scratches?
I don't have a Southern Grind with cerakote, but if it's done properly it's pretty tough stuff. It gets some wear marks from kydex but as long as there's no grit it holds up pretty well. Does depend on the attention to detail of the guy doing it. The shop that does my 'hawks is very good.
