I am seriously considering starting a knife company called LHK Co. (Left handed knife Company), that makes awesome knives, and caters ONLY to left handers, just to stick it to all of the righties enjoying preference for all this time. Please post your knives (or knives that you like) that cater to the strange that is left handers.

I must say, the Kershaw flippers are quite nice, even though the liner lock is right handed, it still is usable lefty. I also like the benchmade axis lock models with opening hole for ambidextrous goodness. I believe Emersons are also ground on the correct side for lefties.

I've mainly got Benchmade axis, but I recently bought a Sage II and I really like the frame lock. Which is weird, because its on the wrongside for us lefties.
Oh and I have an old Bucklite folder. Never carry it though.

I've always carried in my right pocket and just switched hands if needed. When I finally got a LH knife (millie) it felt odd and awkward to deploy with my left hand. I eventually got used to it but its still not as fluid as my right hand.

If you start said company I would like to be first on the list for a 3D sculpted Ti and G10 frame lock with FFG S90V blade :) please.

LH Sebenza 21 and LH Umnumzaan:

After a Bradley Alias, a Sage 2, and numerous liner-locks I was totally turned off to frame-locks and liner-locks. The Sebenza was my first dedicated left-handed knife, and after I got it I finally understood how it was possible for anyone to like frame/RIL's and liner-locks. It actually feels good in my left hand.

I don't think right-handed people realize just how awkward the majority of frame/RIL's and liner-locks are for left-handers.

Any knife that doesn't allow left handed tip up carry with the pocket clip. Haven t ever had a issue opening the knives or disengaging the locks, atleast on any models I've used.

Two CRK's. If the Sage 2 was LH I'd have one. There are many others I can't remember because I just dismiss them when produced as RH only. I am not going to pay substantial bucks for a RH knife.

Maybe you could start a LH subforum first (before LHK Co.) so we can vent about all the new knives we want that are RH and any other lefty issues.

Life, I'm left handed, stop screwing me.

I'm in the same boat. I tried to switch to LH pocket carry, but it seems almost unnatural now, so I just carry RH'd now.

With my fixed blades, I just order LH sheaths...

Spyderco makes a lot of lefty friendly folders as well as CRK (previously mentioned). RJ Martin makes some dedicated lefty's, and I have one G&G Hawk flipper that is lefty friendly. One good idea for your proposed company would be to find a sheath maker with enough capacity to make lefty sheaths so you could offer maximum variety in fixed blades. The biggest PIA for me is finding a knife I really like and having to get a separate sheath made for it. JMHO.

I love all these southpaws (I'm a lefty so I guess I have some input) that insist on using only left hand specific gear when many times it's just as easy to learn to use it right handed or find some other way to adapt to use the tool as intended. I understand things like golf clubs and rifles being specific, but I've never been picky about knives, even one sided thumb studs. Alot of times a bit of pressure against the spine in the right spot and a flick of the wrist is enough to open a blade, though with things like the spidey hole, double drilled pocket clip mounts and ambidextrous thumb studs it kind of amazes me that this is still an issue in the industry. For the most part I carry fixed blades and traditional folders anyway...

What this guy says.

Lefthanded pocketclip, lefthanded thumbstud. Locks have never been a problem for me.

And the sheath thing as well, nothing more annoying than seeing something amazing and then having to discount it because the sheath is on the wrong end.

When I can find lefty specific or lefty friendly knives/ gear that's what I'll spend my hard earned cash on. Why shouldn't I? It's easier and more comfortable to use properly/ safely for me. If I can find a maker or dealer that caters to lefty's that is who will get my business. If you want to compromise that's your perogative, but why should I if I don't have to?

well i have small/medium hands to operating RH knives and the such has never been to much of a bother however, like what has been previously mentioned, lockbacks, spydie hole, axis/arc locks, dual thumbstuds are all very nice to have for us south paws

as to the sheath issue, i just take it as a good opportunity to try my hand at some leatherwork

Another lefty weighing in. I have had to modify my buying so much over the years to be able to accommodate my southpaw. I have even found a few models that were not lefty friendly that I bought simply because I didn't want to feel robbed of the knife.

I will give a big thumbs up to Sal and crew at Spyderco. They seem to be more lefty friendly than a lot of production company's that put out a lot of different models.

I can remember on too many occasions I backed out of a thread to save myself from saying something stupid when people were bitching about the possibility of a Spyderco release that was going to have a 4 way clip option.

Those are the folks I want to spend a day having their car ashtray on the wrong side, their gear shift on the left side, the button on their camera being on the wrong side and most of all opening a liner lock on the wrong side.

I am all for anything that caters to us lefty's.

The only knives that I've had any real problems with is a couple of Bucks. The hole on the Vantage Pro is made for right-handed opening so good thing it has the flipper. The other one, the Ergo Folder is molded for right-handers. Luckily it doesn't feel that bad to me in my left hand..:D

I haven't had any problems at all with Kershaw or BM, at least so far..

The Benchmade Dejavoo is made for right handers but it's not a big problem since enough of the hole is there to open the blade and there's not much keeping it closed.

Victorinox's One Hand Trekker has a lefty liner lock. I bought one only because it's $30 for a left handed knife. I also put a Nite Ize Eclipse clip on it for left handed tip up carry. I almost never carry it, though. I love the Axis lock.

As a southpaw, I'm most frustrated at the complete lack of lefty frame locks. Besides the Sebenza and the handful of lefty SNGs Strider made (good luck finding one of those), we really have no options - certainly no options around the $200 range.

I really wish Kershaw would add just one lefty frame lock to their ZT line (or do a limited run) but they're probably the least 'lefty friendly' company out there so I'm not holding my breath. Here's hoping a lefty Izula folder gets made in the next year....
