Southwest, Boot Dagger

Stunning work Kyle, just stunning. Calebs capture on them wow! Thanks for sharing them.
Cheers Keith

Beautiful knives and lovely images! You guys are taking it to new levels.

Amazing lookin koa handle, and that dagger damascus is right on,

What engraver did you end up using? Just curious.

Both knives are fantastic Kyle... but the first one really pops for me. The koa is amazing, and your engraving adds perfectly to the piece without being over-the-top. Great work.

... and Caleb's photos are top-notch!

Hey everyone!

This is not a Southwest Boot Dagger, rather it is a Southwest and a Boot dagger. :D I made these two recently and I wanted to post them up for you all to see.

The first one has a 10 inch W-2 blade with hamon. The handle is Koa (one of my new favorite woods). The fittings are all stainless steel featuring my first ever engraving. It took me a lot of time to do the engraving but it was very enjoyable and I will be doing much more in the future. The engraving is based off a classic border engraving with a bit of a change to the leaves so they would look a bit different from the traditional. There is engraving on the borders, on the front, back, top and bottom of the guard and on the end of the pommel and nut. I'll let the pictures do the talking from here. Thanks to my brother, Caleb for the awesome photos! :)

This is a little boot dagger with a 5 3/4 inch blade made of Feather Pattern Damascus. The blade has a very deep hollow grind. The handle is blackwood with an Argentium Silver, domed pin and German Silver, file-worked spacers. Overall length is 9 3/4 inches. The sheath has a Diamondback Rattlesnake skin overlay and tooling. Let me know what you think and thanks so much for looking.

I went to engraving school back in June with Steve Dunn as my teacher. Steve is really good at teaching and making concepts easy to understand. I highly recommend Steve if anyone is looking to go to an engraving class. :D

Beautiful, beautiful work and photos - thanks for sharing.....:thumbup::thumbup:

Those are both excellent works, and that dagger just blows my mind. Really looks like a feather with the pattern nicely following the blade's centerline. Well done!

Hi, Kyle -- The SW Bowie was a great way to introduce your new engraving skills. Together with the pleasing overall lines, bold hamon and exceptional curly koa (my favorite wood), it makes a heck of a fine package. A good milestone for you, too. As for the dagger, the really fine control of the feather pattern is enhanced all the more by the deep hollow grind. Looks very pointy and lethal. I like it a lot. Keep it up. Bob L

Wow guys, thanks so much for all the compliments! :)

I used the GRS engraving tools for this. My system is six or eight years old but it still works great.

May be older but you definitely learned how to use it well. Ive always been eyeing the lyndsey gravers but they are so darn expensive. The GRS kit looks pretty good though and a much better price tag. Either way beats learning the hammer and chisel method. Learning that is a full time job I think.

Kyle,

You just continue to impress and Calib has really gotten good at showing your talents. Well done!

I especially like the bowie for all of the reasons already mentioned. The shaping of the wood looks great and I wish I could know how it feels in the hand.

Bowie...check, hamon...check, form and flow...check, outstanding materials and execution...check, engraving...What? A surprise and added bonus for sure. Very nice, Kyle

Caleb, your work continues to spiral upward. The backgrounds and your ability to bring out the details in Kyle's work are a pleasure to behold. You captured the engraving very well. Appreciate how you bring your brother's work to the screen.

that is some outstanding craftsmanship.
