Southwest bowie with that guard

This is the first time I've seen a pattern like this on a knife, maybe because this is the first time such a pattern has been posted, I don't know, but I still have to decide if I like it. The rest of the knife, the handle and guard and shape of the blade, are all lovely.

Kevin, you can see a front shot of the guard on the engraving thread a few posts down. On page 3. Some like it some do not.
Layout for me is a booger but when I talk to professional engravers they say that is what is hard for them too.
The pro's tell me it takes 20 minutes a day about 20 years for the average person to become a proficient engraver. For that reason when I am at my best I will be a bit under that since I am a below average upright human.

David, yeah, it is different. The center line meanders about kinda like we all do in life. He just said make something and send him a bill. I like play time. It allows me to try something different and learn more which is also why I also set myself 2-3 big projects each year of something different that I have not done before.

Fine knife and engraving, thanks for sharing. Lets bring this pic to the second page,

That is just beautiful Jerry I still remember the first time I saw the Trail of Tears pattern on this forum it is my favorite of the patterns that I have seen of yours and it works great on this knife.

Jerry, I don't think you need to ask for critique on your work. I would like to see it better but not to find faults, just so I can enjoy it more. A bigger picture would be helpful, I'd like to see that laddering on the blade better. Very cool!

I love the Damascus pattern, the gorgeous wood and the long, lean blade profile. If I were picking nits, I could wish for marginally less ricasso, but that's down to personal preference. Outstanding piece.

Bruce, email me at jerryclothes@jerryfisk.com remove clothes before emailing. :) I will send you a high rez so you can take a much better look at all of it.

Roger, I make all of my large knives with the same length ricasso. The reason is so I can hook or put my finger in front of the guard. I like to use a large knife. I normally make myself a large personal bowie each year to go use hard to try out different treatments or materials and if it survives then I can figure out whether I can offer it to the public. Then I sell it at the end of the year, dirt and all. I chop, slice choke up on the blade to do all types of work with it. That's why the length. Personal preference is what makes the world go around and that is good.

Awsome knife Jerry,outstanding!

Great knife Jerry and the story of the wood makes it even better, but for me trying to fiure out the pattern welded blade is the icing on the cake. thanks for showing.

Jerry, this knife pushes all the right buttons for me

Damascus pattern works GREAT with the blade shape and I love the wood and its story !

I think the engraving is just the right touch to enhance the knife without detracting from the other elements
