I never imagined a blade that size could be so light in the hand. The Southwest Bowie is quicker than most blades two-thirds its length. I've done some real utility work with it, but I can't imagine a more effective fighter. And it's pretty!
My Southwestern arrived - Wow! The pictures don't do this knife justice. The fit and finish is seemingly better than my original OVB Bowie - the wood on the hnadle is noticably better figured. For a knife this size (big) it's very light and handles really well. The blade shape makes for a first rate slashing/cutting knife. Well worth the money I paid for her.
The blade is 3/16" thick and has a full flat grind. For me it's a fighter - I have heavier Khuk blades for serious utility work. That being said I feel the blade could be used for utility work so long as you realized it's limits (not a tree felling tool). It would certainly do very well as a camp knife.
