CRK has said that the inlays are basically permanently attached, so I'd imagine they stay. I don't know how or if they can resurface the scales - best bet is to call CRK and ask. Their customer service is outstanding.
CRK won't take off the inlays. They don't tumble the scales, they are bead blasted or polished. The inlays are surface sanded and taken through a finishing process that makes them shine again. The micarta inlays are blasted. Hope this helps.
I will have to disagree. Sent back a African Blackwood just a couple of months ago due to a scratch on the Ti scale. They have to pull the inserts out to repolish. If the inserts are not damaged they can be reused, but I was told that usally there is no way to get them off without messing them up. I dont know about Micarta though.
So Red did they charge you a lot to take out the scratch? The inserts are taken out by soaking them in diesel.I would think if they have to change the insert it would be expensive.
A complete refurb was around $125 to $150 if I remember correctly. I got the knife in a trade and it needed work. I knew if I wanted to sell, trade, or keep, it would have to be fixed. But remember, it may be cheaper for the Micarta. Just give them a call or send a email. They will get back to you quickly.
