Space Blankets?

Skammer, thanks for the link!

The bag type of set up appears the way to go. In fact, using it as a bivy with a sleeping bag if the temps drop below the sleeping bag's rating.

Campmor sells a silnylon extended poncho that is long enough to cover you and a backpack, and is already fitted with web grommets for building a shelter out of. The sil nylon is fairly strong, although thin, and very light and very packable. When open the poncho is about 4'x8'. It packs into a bag about 5"x8" and @1 1/2" thick. It weighs 7oz, which is right in there w/ anything the same size, except cheap space blankets and very thin plastic. Just a heads up. They are spendy, but not a one time use item, and they are light enough that you don't really need to justify taking them on a hike, overnighter, etc.:) I think ranger ricks has a small article on using poles to make a mil-surp poncho into a small, low tent. These would do the same thing, except that they are not 25 yr. old mil-surp.:D
