The most critical part of the mission though, is the docking with the International Space Station because they have a woman-driver. :D
 
I just watched it. The sad part was that it was just a coworker, another fellow and myself that watched it in the break room here. People forget what a great feat this still is.

(FWIW, some of the BEST drivers I know are women - a friend I went to college with, a good friend in England, and a friend of my son's in Largo - who I will put up in a 5-speed against anyone! She's scary. :cool: )
 
I watched it at home with my 11 year old daughter and her 10 year old cousin. It was magnificent. The camera work has improved exponentially - the shots from the camera mounted on the external fuel tank were exceptional, it even showed the separation and you could see the jets firing on the shuttle to move it gently away from the tank.
 
Not having a TV, I listened on the radio. I sometimes think that radio is better. The sounds of the mighty engines roaring were magnificent. And that was tempered by the calm, collected voice of the NASA announcer. Then came the phrase I didn't want to hear but had to make myself listen to, "Discovery go at throttle up." That brought a lump to my throat. But, they made it. Everything was absolutely perfect.
 
Everyone in my neighborhood who was at home was out in the yard watching, and some cheers went up when the shuttle became visible. It's probably close to 100 miles from here to Melbourne, but it was still possible to see the flames from the rocket as it took off. There's no mistaking this for anything else.

Next time I have to go up to Kennedy!
 
Was watching it on Yahoo, and the link becamed jammed at +1 minute. Ran up to the breakroom and caught it 'just' as it cleared the launch pad. I watched for a couple minutes before going back to my desk. All my coworkers were mad I didn't tell them about it, even the girls!

After I got to my desk, Yahoo was working fine again. :rolleyes: I kept the window open until I left work at noon.

The one replay shot from ~mile away, though the trees, then through the cloud gave me goosebumps. :cool:
