I have a lot of spalted maple burl handle material, The problem is that some of them have ant holes in them and the tracks of dust in the tunnels. Would you stabilize and use these or put them in the fire pit?

Honestly, it's a crappie shoot. I'm not the burl master, but I have sawn my fair share. I would say mill out some 1 and a half thick slabs and see what you have. If I remember correctly you got them for free, so it won't be a huge waste. I have seen some wood with burrow lines through it, it got stabilized then cast in jet black resin to fill in the voids. Looked pretty cool.

I filled the small holes in this piece of maple burl with clear epoxy. I think it turned out fine. I suppose it would depend on how big the holes are too.
