Or just a plain old Spanish Dirk, but a big one.

OAL is 21 inches, with a 14 inch blade. Spine is nominally 3/16 with a gentle distal taper on the last half or so. Material is 8670M, fully quenched and drawn back along the spine and handle.

The blade has a full convex zero grind stropped fine at the edge. nice and sharp, but durable. Forged from bar stock (meaning I forged in some bevels and distal, but didn't start with a ball bearing or something)

The handle material is Argentine Lignum Vitae, with stainless pins. Handle is 7 inches, and provides plenty of manuevering room. This isn't a kitchen knife, and the balance is a bit forward of the hilt for chopping, about 1 3/8 inches.

Sheath is full double hand stitched 8/9 ounce veg tan leather, with straps and eyes to hold a belt hanger. Made by Koyote Girl, and the belt hanger she says is going to ship with it, a double belt loop and adjustable strap sword style model. The straps also provide the ability to attach to a pack or bag, and a safety tie down (or peace tie for festival goers) can be used by looping a cord through the top strap and around the handle.

if i already didnt have a knife on hold i would surely pick this one up. super nice work

Speaking from experience in "Hog Wraslin" that one would work perfect!!!! Nice job!!

That is some nice looking blade right there. If I had any spare cash I would be all over that one. That is a great price, and a great way to support the site.

This is why I love this site. So much eye candy.

Can you tell me what 8670M compares to? not really familiar with that steel. Is it high carbon tool steel, or shock steel, or spring steel?

Great looking sheath as well!

8670M got a bad initial rep because admiral sold it as L6, which is ain't. It's a decent high carbon, listed analysis is
C=.64/.75 Mn=.40/.60 Si=.25 Cr=.30/.50 Ni=.70/1.00 Mo .05/.10

It's another "bandsaw steel", which I like to work with.

Very tough, in my quenching tube tank with medium fast quenchant I get a good solid quench and draw it down, it's got good flex and edge honding and makes a very tough large blade. It's a tiny bit more forgiving of technique than 15N20, and can be well nigh indestructible after a differential temper. Not quite the hardness I'd want on a tiny scandi edge, but I shoot for an edge at 57-58 after oven tempering.

If you use it for thinner knives, others have reported some edge rolling, I only use it for larger dimension convex zero grinds (full spine to edge convex taper) and never have a problem when testing on maple stumps. A similar spanish dirk got sold to a guy a few miles west of me who got it for general woodwalking- he wanted something with some beef due to the craziness against carrying guns around here. He's used it to cut firewood for camping and had no issues with edge holding.
