Spanto VS. Slicer

Great pics, and a great demonstration of how the spanto maintains blade thickness as far out to the tip possible yet they both use the same thickness blade blanks. The swedge difference is also interesting and these pics also makes it easy to compare the blade stop position between Gen 3 and Gen 4.

I'm glad you guys liked the pictures. I'm amazed at how well they came out because I didn't have my camera and just took these pics from my cell phone ( Go Apple!). Anyways, on to the Slicer...

In no way does the slicer compromise thickness compared to the Spanto. The "eyeball" test shows that the slicer is thicker s
Spine-wise but as RDA said above, the Spanto maintains that thickness while the slicer tapers down more to the cutting edge. It's all beast and beef just like the Spanto. I don't think I would carry one over the other because both will do what I need them to do on my job. If I needed delicate cutting, I'd whip out a small 21.

The BEST thing I love about the Slicer is the detent. It's pretty strong. If I had to compare it, it's like the detent on my Paramilitary 2s. This should not open accidentally like my Spanto has on several occasions in my pocket. Because of that I've had to resort to carrying it tip down so I don't a amputate a finger. With the Slicer, I can carry this thing tip up and be secure that I'll always pull it out without blood on my hands. I wonder if there's a way to strengthen the detent on my Spanto without comprising the ease of blade deployment:confused: Because of this detent, this fires rapid and authoritatively.

If you get an opportunity to get one, get it, or let me know so I can get another.

The spine is thicker on the slicer?!

I think the swedge (for lack of a better term) makes it look that way. If you look down lower that spanto blade swells back up again.

I see you guys have mentioned that already. ;) These are generation 3's or the new gen 4's?

Does the detent hole go through the blade or is it just a deeper indentation on the Gen 4s?
Thats pretty much my only gripe with the gen 3's. Now the Gen 4's fixed the detent problem and also
have a wicked slicer grind, that pretty much makes a perfect blade. Now the only problem is finding one. :)

Pics I saw appeared that the dent was a hole in the tang. Experts should follow to confirm that.

Gen 4 Slicer...if I had to describe the 3v4 detent I'd say the 3 has a dimple size of hole while the 4 has a bigger, deeper, and rounder hole.

Thanks for that angle bro. It indeed appears to have a "bigger, deeper, and rounder hole" on your gen 4 slicer!

I don't have a Hinderer with slicer grind, but I have other knives with that grind. For my EDC I prefer the heavier spanto grind because of the abuse I heap on the knife at times, especially over here in the sand.

that's why it's a MUST to have one of each!

For production models the most accurate answer I can provide on the 3" Slicer is…not yet. But. It is logical to assume it will be offered when they roll out the newest generation of 3"ers.

@perryman: is "spanto" a statement or a question? Additional words please.
