spare knife on camping

I like to pair my Vic farmer with my BK16 for day hikes. Yes, I use the saw and awl the most on the farmer, but in general it's a solid little knife. Heck, IA Woodsman did a fire prep video using just a US knife which is very similar and it turned out well.
Besides, if you just used your 16 for fire prep, you may want something else for cutting up that apple for a snack. Just sayin'

I couldn't even begin to recommend a "back up", I carry like a dozen blades when I'm out. It seems I don't have enough time to get out with the ones I have. I can't commit to just a couple knives per outing.

A Mora HD Companion - as stated. Only $20, and a very useful and proven bushcraft knife. Best value out there. Gives you more $$$$ to spend on your primrary, if nothing else.

BK-11 for sure, and probably with the micarta scales.

Then you will eventually need a BK-10 or BK-4 or 9 to handle the larger stuff. BK-12 if you want to spend the extra money. Yes......... It's worth it.

Another point to consider. Don't we all schlep around enough weight as it is when we hit the bush? I look for lightest weight to do the job - knife or otherwise - and at 3.6 ounces...versus some of the suggestions above, the Mora may be worth mulling over.

A back up knife?
A small fixed blade in case you loose your BK16?

I always carry a stockman slippy or a SAK Camper, and a small Scandi or Mora for its carving ablities
