spark arrestor

We have adequate flow with the blast gate adjusted. It took me a long time to find the correct air flow and water level. I think a bigger bucket/container would be a good idea.

I love remote controls for the dust collector. I glued a magnet to the back of the remote. When I change machines the remote goes with me.

Thats the beauty of this i-vac switch. i dont have to carry anything. its basically just a box with separate breakers wired together. when i flip on my grinder, it automatically turns on dc 1 second later.

3 days ago after grinding some TI, i forgot to turn on my shopvac/arrestor and instantly ignited the bucket and pvc. this little i-vac wont let me forget!

Well, i switched to a 31" high big ass bucket and still sucking water with exact same adjustments as the 5 gallon bucket. so squash the larger bucket idea.not sure what to try next.

Move the down draft tube higher above the water. The volume of air going down the tube is disrupting the water too much. The height of the tube, the level of the water and the volume of water all must be adjusted to make it work correctly. My tube is about three inches above the water.

I use some tools like the table saw outside the shop. With the remote I turn the dust collector on and off as needed. I also use the dust collector to clean off equipment and pick up piles of dust from sweeping. Maybe the perfect system uses automatic activation and a remote?

Simple X 10 appliance remotes work very well for things like this. They are cheap-about $20 to set up, and you can add additional controls for other items for about $8 each. I use it in my shop.

Ya know, thats an obvious move.., that had'nt even occured to me :o thanks, chuck. i guess i was stuck on having the tip of down draft tube in water to block sparks from being directly vacuumed up.

I too, see you point about using the remote. if my shop was bigger with more tools i'd probably got the remote route. being so absent minded the i-vac will save me fires  i'll report back after more adjustments!!!

2" water, pipe cut at 45 degree with tip of pipe roughly 3" above water, blast gate 90% open.., not water suckage but she'll inhale 90% of dust. thats the ticket!!! thanks a ton, Chuck

Now.., lets talk about grounding. might as well make a full blown thread :)
