Spark, Why?

It's pretty simple, how many sites do you pay to access? How many discussion boards do you pay to participate in? How many of the top sites on the web require dues? I have been a paying member from the first year I registered, but I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone thinks the average board user would expect to pay when they don't have to on the incredibly overwhelming majority of sites. If you never click on an ad, or, like I and many others, use a browser that blocks as many ads as possible, that's the same free ride. But, there's no option to pay on most of the other sites.
