Spartan Blades Akribis folders with 3.5" blade of S35VN

Spartan Blades just released this 10 minute video about the Akribis folder:

Figured I'll share some user feedbacks since there doesn't seem to be all that much floating around. I did recently pick up a Akribis off the exchange. Touched it up with my Sharpmaker so it took a beautiful edge as expected of S35VN. I had a project to work on and I had to cut up a lot of cardboard. I had pretty much sliced up three cardboard boxes that Cold Steel swords come in so it was a good bit of cardboard. I decided to use my TAD Dauntless MK2 as kind of a comparison. I've sliced all but maybe 10% of it and the edge is still useable, but it can't push cut anything. I can somewhat do a draw cut and of course sawing can be done. The ergos on it is just amazing. No fatigue at all. These are true for both knives. My biggest complain about the Akribis is the coating. It is GRIPPY. Every cut requires a little extra effort because of the coating. Where as the Dauntless's stonewash reduced the drag. Yes I know the edge geometry is different, but that grippiness of the coating is definitely there. The edge retention isn't amazing, but it isn't bad either. It's performance is very similar Sebenza. It's essentially a tactical Sebenza, but smoother and meatier.

Spartan Blades has concentrated mostly on the real-life tactical and combat market. The coatings are a must for them to reduce shine and overall extra protection against the elements. May be one day they'll offer an unprotected stonewashed blade...

The ergos look like the akrabis would be more comfortable to use than a sebenza. Also, I don't remember there being many situations in the military where a non-reflective coating was needed on a pocket knife. Maybe on a non-stainless steel, but just for looks on a stainless. Any kind of actual work that needed to be done that required such stealth that the knife needed to be non-reflective, that work would've required a fixed blade, and a fixed blade that's a lot meaner than a small pocket knife. So yea, I'd be interested in a non-coated version. I was very, very close to getting a phrike, but ended up with something else. Price was kind of high for basically a longer neck knife.

Those that think these knives are better f&f than CRK need to watch the two CRK ship your videos. I do not believe any other knife mfg in the world can hold the tolerances that CRK does.

Well great company, I have one on the way.The clip is not really an issue. Very fast shipping and great CS.

I agree. But the quality of Spartan Blades is extremely high. I hate to use the word 'better' when comparing knives. Spartan Blades uses premium materials and I think the price tag is warranted.

I'm very happy with the knife, it's what I expected for the price. The "back story" on the owners is a bonus, and for me it was money well spent. I really like everything about the knife and was worried that since I'm a "lefty" that the clip might be a PIA, however the knife carries so well, and feels so good that it's a non issue for me. Oh yea this thing is razor sharp, you have to be careful or you could wound yourself.

What was your warranty experience like? Did they take the knife no questions asked? Or did they want a bunch of paperwork?

I contacted them first, and told them of my problem. It started to develop a little side to side play. The warranty page says to include a ton of paper work like proof of purchase and such, but that's not necessary. I was told to just send the knife in with a note on what needed to be fixed. They'll even send the knife back with usps priority and insured. It's quite nice of them.

I got my knife back long ago, sorry for the late reply on the matter....

I think all he did to fix the side to side blade play was tighten the pivet, which is now too tight imo. Its smooth, but doesnt open very easily. It needs to get loosened a bit. Its a balancing act on how tight the pivet is to make sure there is no blade play and how easily you want the knife to open. For me, I think having the knife where I personally wanted it made it so there was a little play. To fix that you just tighten it. Imo mine is only smoother and nicer than my sebenza IF it is loose enough to where there is a little blade play. Get it tight enough to where there is none and there equal. Seb Maybe beeing a bit better?

Anyways, there was nothing wrong with my knife when I sent it in. It was just too loose.

The CS was great though. It was shipped back to me in a very timely manner.

They made it stiff on purpose so it can break into that happy smooth and no play stage. That's what I had to do with mine. I pretty much just sat there for a few hours while watching moving opening and closing the knife. My Akribis is way smoother than any CRK that I've ever owned.

I think the Akribis looks outstanding. I'm very interested in picking one up.

Is the pocket clip removable ?

You should give it them a try. If it's less than perfect, contact them and they'll take care of you.

Pocket clip is removable. You'll just need two Hex drivers.
