Recommendation? Spartan Blades Harsey folder

I like all the different designs on the handles they’ve made. Great design always wanted one but they’re as much as a Hinderer I can’t seem to buy one over a RHK. Break in on some knives is a real thing so the lockstick on a non broken in one doesn’t matter.

One thing I think it has going for it is their heat treatment. Supposedly their blades are double cryoed

I just watched the aforementioned YouTube video by TheApostleP:

In the video, Rob levels some pretty valid technical points about the SHF, and I consider his opinion as informed. So, I took a closer look at the Lifetime Warranty offered by Spartan Blades:

"This Warranty does not cover normal wear, re-sharpening, damage caused by neglect, misuse or the failure to perform normal or necessary maintenance, disassembly of any knife by any person other than Spartan Blades’ Service department may void the warranty (...) Do not disassemble your knife if unsure of how to properly reassemble (...)"

It would appear that disassembling the knife may void the warranty, and with the technical issues highlighted by Rob's video, I'd avoid the situation all together. If my SHF develops an issue that requires take-down, I'll send it back to the mothership. That way, if any of the issues ApostleP describes manifest, it'll be a headache for Spartan, not me. I rarely disassemble my folders anyway, so not such a personal peeve, but it may be a crucial consideration for those who like to tinker.

And if you do have to send a knife back to Spartan, their warranty also says this:

"The knife must be shipped by owner, prepaid and insured, together with a description of the problem and must be accompanied by the original bill of sale, packing slip, your charge or credit receipt or any satisfactory proof of the original date of purchase."

Best keep that receipt in the box. Better still, keep a photocopy of the receipt in the box. Never surrender your original and/or only records.

This is just extra food for thought, and I still have no regrets buying an SMF. If the knife develops any issues, I'll report back. It's only Day 2 of my ownership; easy to sing praises of a shiny new toy, but it's important to stay honest, IMO.

Dang.....its the Medturd crap all over again...:(

Basically the same as the old Gerber Harsey Air Ranger, but with upgraded materials and a frame-lock instead of a liner-lock.
It's definitely not a new design.

I want one for a while, but the price (which was not a concern on other knives of lower lineage) and the horror stories about lockup to make Strider blush held me back. This knife ticks all my boxes, tho. Still, it's a 2 ZT value....

This is the kind of knife ZT should make a collaboration model of , maybe then I could afford it.

Whoa, that warranty is ugly! Considering the price-point, I'd expect better service. Many knife companies do better at a fraction of the price.

to the contrary of most of what I just read... I have one and it is absolute excellence. I love it. I did not have a lock stick issue with mine. I did have a small problem with my Spartan Pallace. I called and the owner of SB Curtis Iovito picked up the phone himself. Absolutely awesome guy. Their customer service is outstanding. I actually wrote post id you look up "My experience with Spartan blades".

Buy the knife!! You won't be disappointed.

I'm glad you loved it. I do like the way the knife looks, but then I look at the price tag. For almost € 600 I could buy so much of the stuff I've wanted for some time!

Even if the customer service is very good, I live in Europe and that is quite the logistical barrier. If something is ever wrong with it, I will need to burn some serious cash to use that service. Not to mention the waiting times.

I think I'll just have to wait to handle one IRL, and see for myself.

I've dealt with their warranty department before, they're not as strict as they make it sound on the website. Also like most other manufacturers, they're ok if you disassemble it yourself, but that might mean any issues you develop are on you. Basically they don't want you to take your knife apart and then send them a bag of parts when you can't put it back together.
