Been lurking a while, especially watching the Busse classifieds. I've been eyeing Spartan Blades for a bit, but I can't seem to find many reviews on them. Anyone have any experience with them to share?

I think they're pretty new, only heard/seen them in Blade and Tactical Knives. Look like decent knives, but I've never actually known anyone who owns one.

I've handled them, but never used them. They're comfortable, but have a few sharp edges where they shouldn't; extended use could produce a few hotspots in the hand.
They're all S30V blades; not sure how that steel holds up in a hard-use fixed blade.

Well, I decided to just go ahead and take a chance. Ordered the Ares in Earth/Green from Knivesshipfree.com. Once I've had it for a while, I'll post a review.

I had a Spartan Ares.

Overall, I liked the knife very much. 3/16 in S30V, tan Micarta handle slabs. I feel like the knife is more suited as a defensive knife rather than having much utility. The slight curve from handle to blade produces an excellent forward thrust, if used in knife fighting.
The Okuden sheath that I purchased with it was excellent. I actually bought some blade tech IWB loops and prefered carrying the knife consealed IWB, and it was great for that, because of the overall thin profile of the knife and especially the handles.

The edge, when new, left something to be desired, and I ended up taking it to a professional knife sharpener who had a slack belt grinder, and paper wheel to put the edge to useable.

At the end of a couple months of ownership, I really never used the knife for anything, but carry a few times, and traded it for something I hope to get more use out of. That's just me though, you may like to use yours more.

Hope that provided some help.

That certainly does help. I'm buying it for the purpose of self defense, I've got Bark River's for bushcraft.

Once you'd worked the edge, how was the edge retention? I'm not worried about sharpening, I've gotten pretty good at it through years of trial and error. But I don't like needing to resharpen a knife every time I cut something with it.

I met and spoke with one of the owners at the Timonium knife show in December. Good guy, knives looked to be well made.

Haven't taken any pics yet, but I've picked up two: first ordered a Horkos from the company... great guys to deal with. got the coyote finish and a multicam sheath, that fits great. the knife is fast in the hand. it's one that you could put on your LBE and never know its there, a great feeling knife, but with my hands I wish the handles were a bit thicker, but it's ok... also traded for one of their limited edition Spartan Harsey LE 1s I got 168/250 IT is unbelievably nice feeling in the hands, and is a perfect fighter size. the harpoon shaped blade looks like it would penetrate easily. a bit pricey at $500 but heck, when your used to buying Busses, you learn that you pay for what you get.. ps.. I wish Busse would make one like this in INFI steel...
We'll see where spartan blades go... they have a good product.

Overpriced s-30v for the wannabe, 511 wearing, fantasizing about comming out of the water with one between the teeth, tacti-cool, i will only shoot a h&k mk23 in GODS caliber crowd. I m sorry, was that out loud? I thought that was just in my head.

I see that you do not like them but unless you have concrete reasons to back up that bit of slander then you look like an ignorant hater.

Worked at a gun store/range/knifestore/which also offers defensive firearm/knife classes taught by some fairly legit individuals. I hate to admit it....... gun and knife shows.

I bought a Spartan Blades Enyo neck knife about a month ago and have been putting it through some moderate use. I honestly couldn't be more happy with it & would recommend that brand for sure. I've handled 3 other models & will definitely be getting one of them. Check out their folders too, a little different look wise, but flipping one open at Monkey edge in Az. put an immediate smile on my face. Hope you enjoy the one u ordered as much!

I can tell you that they look freakin' sweet and if I had a need for knives I wouldn't actually use, I'd probably buy a few.

THIS IS SPARTA!!!!

Of course everyone knows the guys who work in gunshops are experts !!! :thumbdn:

Whatever you are referring to was said either 7 or 5 years ago.

And yes, now they are using s35vn which I like more than s30v. It is easier to sharpen. I've reprofiled a couple of my spartans and it was quite doable. Gratuitous Spartan pictures:
