Man, i think this spear is super-cool ! why is there a butt spike as well as a spearhead ? can you throw it in either direction ? have you ever got a deer with one ? can you throw it with some accuracy to 30 yards ? why did you choose Pine for the shaft ?
thanks, i'm quite interested.

Roland,
Thanks for the good words. From what I've learned, the butt spike's could be used to stand upright on the ground. Also if your spear broke, you would have another end to fight with. In addition, you were surrounded, you wouldn't have to spin the spear around to fight.

You can't throw it in either direction, because one side is heavier than the other. I've never killed a deer with it. I don't believe it would be very feasible to kill a deer with one. Not fast enough. Especially when arrows go 200 or more FPS. 30 yards is a little much. Maybe if you trained up to it, you could probably throw it 30 yards accurately.

I really didn't have a reason why I choose that pine at the time. It’s just the easiest 1 1/4 dowel rod I could find.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks, Chris

Would you consider selling just the tips? Send it off to Coronado, and have some composite stuck on it...

Sure. I can make some new tips for you (don't want to rip them off the one for sale) for $60 plus $8 shipping. I'm not sure what you mean by composite? Just let me know. Chris

Archer, the outdoor channel had film of a guy ambushing/killing a wild boar with a spear. This was on just a few days ago; he found an area in a swamp that was frequented by a small group/herd of pigs, led by a large boar. In a wet, pond-like area, he climbed into a tree that was leaning over the water & waited for the boar to return. When it did, the boar went right under this tree & the hunter made a quick downward throw into the boar's upper shoulder area; this penetrated one of his lungs, so it was a quick kill...............I didn't think he'd actually find/kill a boar, but the film proved it's possible.................later, Bill..........good work, by the way!

I have several friends who go for pigs with spears routinely. They find it great fun.

Yeah, here in the Ozarks that's a popular sport too. I live in Razorback country :D It can get pretty bloody and gory doing it that way, but it's still fun.

I've sold a few of the polished silver tips by themselves; from this thread, but the entire spear in this thread is still available for anyone interested.

Great! Glad you liked them. Don't work too hard, and have a nice 4th!

All, the full spear in the picture is still available. I can also take orders for just the tips.
