I'm eyeing on a full size spartan harsey folder plain Jane. I've never tried any spartan folder but do have multiple zt0452s including a full ti one. Anyone has tried Both? Could you please share your thoughts? Like what I can get from the spartan that I can't from the zT?

Good. SHF is a non flipper on washers without a lockbar insert and weighs 2oz more while zt0452 is a flipper on bearings with a steel lockbar insert. Similarities: Both are thick behind the edge, 4" long blade, slim profile.

I guess I need to be persuaded why I should get a spartan now that I've already have a zt0452TI?

Because it's a big, thick, thumb stud knife on washers, if that's what you want. Other than length and scale material they couldn't really be more different.

Apparently their warranty is excellent if any problems ever arise. I haven’t had to use it though. I love my spartan I actually just ordered another one.

If you're going to EDC the knife, I would go for the ZT0452Ti all day and any day. I also have a preference for flippers on bearings, especially since the action of the ZT0452 is so well executed.

The SHF is a chunky thumb studder on washers. Compared to the ZT it's less fidgety, slower action and a bit too heavy (for me) as an EDC.

[Edit] I should have asked your intended purpose for the knife. As I mentioned, I prefer the ZT for EDC. However for harder uses like camping where I would be processing firewood, between the two I'd opt for the SHF.

Depends on what you're looking for. They are kinda different animals. I have a 0452. It was my first ZT and arguably probably the best out of the 8 or so I have owned.

The 0452 is a fast firing flipper and a good cutter.

I EDC a SHF because I prefer the stoutness and washers. Much more comparable to a CRK than a ZT.

I own both and I think that the Spartan is a stouter knife which would compare better to a Hinderer or Sebenza than ZT452. They are obviously quite different in design. The Spartan is probably a better all around knife that you could use for a wide variety of tasks from EDC to camping work. I would not choose the ZT for any of those other than limited EDC. Not that there is anything wrong with the ZT but it is just different and less than 1/2 the price of the Spartan.

I don't have any specific use in my mind. I often EDC a BM Bugout, Spyderco PM2, and maybe occasionally a skinny Hinderer xm-18 3.5. Going camping I'd add a fixed blade with me. I'm asking about large SHF simply because I like long folders (zt0452, BM 710, microtech socom, e.g.) and wonder what I'll be missing if I never try one.

I you like long folders and are looking at Spartan Blades, the POROS comes in at 9 inches OAL and offers 3 different scale options.

I'm biased because I'm not a fan of dedicated flippers & the SHF has thumbstuds. It's also S45Vn vs s35vn.

My answer, though, is this: if you're not sold on the SHF, skip it for now. What you really want is a Cheburkov Crow (aka Voron or Raven). Longer blade, steel options, flipper and opening hole, better action than the SHF or 0452. I opted for scales on both sides...which I find more appealing (both in terms of comfort and aesthetics)

How offer do people experience blade play with SHF, if any? The washer on the lock side seems small.

Shouldn't be an issue. Most washers are small. Bearings even smaller, their contact patch is absolutely miniscule.

If you like the Benchmade 710. You will love the Spartan Harsey. It's heavier but feels better in hand and thumb stud works better then the 710. It's very easy to take apart and clean. Can't say that for the Benchmade unless your just removing the blade and washers. The blade shapes are almost identical. You will get use to the jimping on the Harsey which can feel a little sharp but I got to say it doesn't seem to bother me like when I first got it.check out eBay. You can get good deals from Spartan dealers.IMG_20240118_144814653_HDR.jpgIMG_20240118_144814653_HDR.jpg

I got the spartan. Just want to say I agree to everything said in this post. It's a cool folder. I think I'll play with it a bit to decide if I'll get a graphic one ( DLT has more upcoming with magnacut steel).

By the way, where did you get that 0452 cf scale? Looks it's contoured?
