Spartan Harsey Plague Doctor - Thoughts please

I have a Pallas, a 3.75 inch button-lock flipper. It flips pretty well despite a somewhat weak detent. It drops shut. It's fidgetable if you like your fidget toys on the heavy side. It has a sharpening choil. Only problem so far is that, out of the box, the edge was 24 degrees on one side and 28 degrees on the other.

You need to try one of the SHF blades, I will admit however that I am looking at the Spartan LG collab

My Pallas was an CQ wreck. I wasn't able to correct the off centered blade play combo. Turned it into my favorite beater knife because of its easy opening and closing.

I think if one has a hankering for another higher end titanium frame-lock folder past owning a CRK and a Hinderer, the SHF is definitely one to look at.

I, too, am perplexed by the terrible plunge grind. It sticks out like a sore thumb, since the rest of the knife is so highly refined--nigh perfection even. Obviously, Mr.Harsey can say what he wants about his 'design choice', but it was a poor one, imo. Still a damn fine knife, though, and I like the one I have.

Good luck, OP!

Wow! Thanks, guys! I've read all your comments mutiple times, and they've been extremely informative and helpful.
I'm likely going to get one of the small Plague Doctors on order soon. I like the green and the blue. Flip a coin maybe!
I'll let you know what I get, and some thoughts, as soon as I have some.
Thanks again! Gotta love this forum!

We will enable the heck out of you!

I'm looking for a watch handle and a runes and staves with stonewash blade. SHF stonewash is a tactile pleasure to experience, it literally is soft to the touch. You will appreciate it once you hold one.

I have a Runes & Staves, and I don't think they came with a stonewash blade, only the coated blades. It's a phenomenal coating for what it's worth.

Have had a SHF (large) for several months. I put it in my pocket when heading outdoors anticipating physical activity (sweat) and possible wet/rain conditions.
I've had quite a few Strider folders (none now... especially after learning about Strider controversy) and this SHF (to me) feels somewhat like a Strider. As others have commented, relatively thick behind the edge. However, takes and holds a good working edge.
Best regards and God bless.

I purchase a PJ large SHF thanks to these enablers ;)

It may be my favorite folder in my collection. It's well built, tight on tolerance, and built hell for stout. It's a good alternative for those of us that missed the Titanium on Steel lock up of a 21. I'm a huge fan.

I do not understand the people who say that the SHF is on the same field as CRK. The SHF just has too many sharp edges where there shouldn't be sharp edges to make that claim in my book.
Chris and Mark were Green Berets. The SHF ergos represent a hard use path as a result.

I'm not just a collector, but also a user and worker. I enjoy and tolerate their ergos. Again, only a fixie gives me this level on confidence.

My suggestion: wear leather gloves when deploying and using a SHF.

The "God and Country" is calling you 😂

I do think they could be soap barred. IMHO, the hard edges being a feature not a bug doesn't hold water. Just because someone is a tough guy doesn't mean that the knife they spin out should be less finished than a CRK for the price point.

I'm willing to let it slide because I do feel that they are a beefier version of a CRK where it counts. I do like the steel on titanium lock up that you can't get with a CRK these days. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the ceramic ball lock up, but it's not the same (for better or worse).

Action and fit, I feel the SHF is on par with the CRK. It's a slow roll solid titanium framed folder on bronze washers. The CRK beats it in the finish department as well as being designed to be taken apart easily. The Spartan is a heavy, stout cuss of an EDC. I would say that CRK holds a special place in my heart as a knife I always wanted (I have a large Inkosi), but the full size SHF fits my needs better.

Still, they could use a bit of a dehorning for sure.

I say grow some callouses! 😂 I have had a couple of my SHFs apart, and they are easy to take down and reassemble, I greased them with some CRK grease and the actions are amazing!

I like how the ergos are slightly uncomfortable. It makes me pause and slow down. A safety feature, for sure. Out in the field miles away from help.

Again, wear a glove.

Leather.
