Excellent review abbydaddy. I'm curious, is the tang of the blade on your example carbadized? I also think your black handled version is the best looking one I've seen. Enjoy.

Well, finally got to check out the Nirvana in person at our local knife shop, and i'm glad i went with the SHF.

No doubt, the design & concept of the Nirvana is excellent. However, i do not understand why they went with the blade finish that they used, other than to match it with the ti... As you can see in the pic, it still had some oil on the blade, but places without the oil, there were little dark marks on the blade that looked like tiny little rust spots. The blade is not smooth, so would imagine that even wiping or cleaning off these corrosion spots would not be as easy as a wipe with some Flitz etc... (another thread that i linked to in a earlier post discusses this issue in more detail: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1420545-Nirvana-blade-finish-corrosion-spots )IMO a stonewashed or satin blade would have been better...
The knife i saw was the display one at the store, and has probably been opened & closed a fair bit since they received it last week, still had the lock stick though... (have a K2 - which is an awesome blade btw - which had similar lock stick when it was new, but it broke in nicely over time, so i'm sure these most likely will too, as others have stated regarding their experience with the Nirvana [ http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1407951-Nirvana/page3?highlight=nirvana ]....)
In terms of design & blade steel used, i can see the appeal of this knife...
At least for me the ergonomics were better on the SHF as well. It just fits my hand so well that it feels like it was made for me... You just have to be careful when you open the blade too gently, the lock does not fully engage, this has been mentioned before...but mine is still relatively new...not really a problem by any means...just open the blade with a little authority...
Also prefer the way the scales are finished on the shf...they wont show wear as easily as the Nirvana... Not sure if one can get them re-finished like a Sebenza...
The fit & finish on the SHF is exceptional, and although the Spyderco is also pretty good, at least in my opinion, the SHF felt like it was just better finished...but of course, i am no expert, and my opinion is based on seeing & handling one Nirvana and two SHFs...
When making my purchase, i had not seen a Nirvana in person, and was double minded...that was mainly why i started this thread.
Overall, after comparing the two side by side, i have absolutely no regrets about going with the SHF...
It's good to hear that you feel good about your decision even after actually getting to check out the Nirvana. Especially good to feel like you definitely made the right choice.
