I am curious to know how this spatan harsey folder compares to a Sebenza ... does anyone here have first hand experience with the spartan...

I don't own the SHF, but did see it at blade show. However, I do own two Spartan blades and one CRK. Both are great brands. If you're paying retail, I'd go with the CRK. They are known for quality and have an amazing blade geometry. The edge on my CRK is slightly convexed, making it easy to touch up. Don't get me wrong, I really like them both, but I think the CRK is better quality for the price.

I have the spartan harsey folder and the small sebenza. They Are both great knives. The spartan harsey uses a frame lock similar to hinderer folders. So it is rock solid as well. Not side to side play and no rocking front to back. Since the handle is also slimmer thus my hand wraps around it perfectly. I don't have the large sebenza, but I imagine the Harsey folder being slightly heavier. And the blade of the harsey folder is around 4". I think the large sebenza is 3.64" or something like that. It depends on what you want to use the folder for. If it is an edc in an office environment, it might be a tad bit long for you. But if you are looking to perform outdoor work with it, it's a great knife. Even though I have this harsey folder, I still plan on getting a large sebenza as well. Quality wise they are both really good. They are both all made in the USA. And spartan blade's customer service is top notch. Let me know if you have further question. I will try to answer as best as I could.

I like the SHF. I've come close to pulling the trigger on one more than once. And I believe it got American made knife of the year this year or last year.

Thanks for the comments... I am a CRK dealer and from time to time a customer will ask how the two companies compare

I directly compared these. I ended up going with the Inkosi but the Harsey is no slouch. It is easily just as good as the Sebenza and a real work of art. Infact the only reason I got the Inkosi was becaise I got a discount and i prefer the texture of CRK. That chalky kind of texture.

So. Whats your point?. He's not selling his knives here so he does not need a dealer membership.

This is absolutely true, but there was also no reason for him to even mention he is a knife dealer. It had no relevance to comparing the knives and sounds like self promotion.

Could be self promotion, could also be explaining where the question is coming from. I've seen him mention hes a CRK dealer but I've never seen him make any connection to his business. Doesn't really seem to be a problem until he's directing people to his shop.

This is what he wrote.

Hopefully its just him really wanting to know so he is able to tell his customers how they compare with each other. Maybe the dealer comment wasn't needed but I dont think he was truly trying to advertise.

Why do so many people seem to always be on the lookout for something negative? :grumpy: The guy just mentioned why he asked the question; if he didn't, he'd probably be asked which one he bought. They are both well liked knives and well liked companies, so personal preference seems to be the deciding factor though Yaku had some interesting points about where someone may be using/carrying them.

to those concerned... I am confident that if i was breaking the rules here then I would be immediately banned from these forums... if that happens then so be it... its been nice chatting... otherwise i will hang around for a while

I don't think you did anything wrong either, but what do I know.

What I would like to say is that if customers want to know how they compare you should get one to compare. If you don't want to keep it once you have put it through its paces you can sell it for not much loss. This seems like a much better way to obtain information to advise your customers than asking the question here to complete strangers, many of whom do not have any experience with the much more rare SHF. Seems like it might be a better service to your customers. YMMV.

someone said that i should consider becoming a spartan dealer... I said i don't think so... its really not that profitable unless you are a big time dealer and then the risk is losiing big time ---- so i am just a small CRK dealer so that i get to handle a few knives that i like and sell a few knives here and there

I agree. They aren't that big. Seems hard to make a profit if you don't have much else in the way of offerings. Still, if people are asking about it you would serve them better buy getting one to try.
