Speaking of Ballistol

back from the grave i know, but i didnt think i had enough info for a new thread...

liquid all the way. if i didnt have the microdrip botle, id say aresol, only because it can get into crack better then liquid. but with the microdrip (a god send for the handle grooves, the engravings, leather seams etc), the aerosol is bound for trunk/backpack duty. its great for car parts, but for every day items the liquid is easier to use and doesnt smell as strong.

i found another use for ballitol that really impressed me - sap remover. i got my bilton today (awesome :D) and went out to shave a little more bark off this walking stick we have that has been slowly being shaved for the past year and a half, and it sapped up my bilton, 12" ak, and 18" ak. so i go and wash them with soap, and then gojo, and then said ah, screw it. i'll use lighter fluid if ballistol doesnt help.

ballistol did indeed help, basically doing a lighter version of what lighter fluid (zippo) does to sap/light glues. awesome stuff. and it put a coat of ballistol on the blades for storage in the same motion :D

(note on the bilton and shaving bark, the 18" ak did better then both when choking up to cho creep area. the 12 was teh correct length, but the 18 seemed to do better. for chopping, the bilton kinda falls behind because of its 3 finger grip... it it had a longer handle, you could get by with it. 18 rules amongst them though. so powerful....so bueatiful....)

I'm starting to use the Ballistol.

Need to find a couple of squeeze bottles--
smallest & large.

As solvent GooGone/Citrus Solvent is probably faster.

Haven't tried mixing these yet.

they have a spray bottle, and a microdrip bottle, and a pump cannister for atomizing liquid aresol via air pump.

im pretty sure that thats not what your looking for, but they do have the microdrip bottle...

i like the fact that it doesnt matter how sloppy i am with the ballistol since it can only help the leather/wood on the kukhuries. on the 18" ang khola, the entire blade was covered in it, and i had to use a fair amount of ballistol, just to hit all the area's effected.

im not sure if googone or citrus remover is safe to use on leather... my hands always get covered in ballistol when i use it, and im afraid that if i use anything stronger, i'll end up smearing everything with it....

I use old worn out cut up cotton socks for general purpose rags. I have a small piece I loaded up with B-L 2 or 3 months ago and have it placed on top of a piece of plastic cone so that it doesn't get all over everything. The evaporant, is that a word? when it evaporates off leaves an oily residue that doesn't seem to dry out or get stinky.
I'm still using the same B-L soaked rag for touch ups on the khuks I have setting around my desk.I have recharged it maybe twice when it got a little heavy.:D

Great Stuff B-L!!!!

lol... i walked into my room after oiling up my jacket (inside the creases, seams, zippers, pockets, the whole shebang), and 4 of my larger khuks i left for the day. when i came back, i walked in and went "man... where the hell is that smell coming from..." i thought i had brought some food in that was especially oderant, but i couldnt remember anything smelling like that... i asked my mother, and she said it smelled like salami, not a bad smell, but definitely there. and then i remembered the ballistol and thought "ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh.... thats the old dirty gym sock smell everyone says they hate.... thats not that bad..." and it only lasts about a week ... they say that the stuff will last 2 years before beginning to bio/photodegrade when in the open air...

Just in case someone misses this post on the olive oil thread......

This place has the best prices I've seen unless the ballistol.com website has came down on their prices.
A five gallon can is $150.00!!!!!!! :D

Checked out the ballistol.com page and see that their prices are a lot better now than they used to be!!!!:D
This looks to be a pretty neat package with several options for application!!!!:D  :D
