Speaking of new Sheriff's... Who is your favorite Old West figure?

Simon Kinton.

Crossed the Cumberland Gap, hunted in Kentucky and Ohio. Helped many new settlers survive. Scouted in Lord Dunmore's War. Saved Daniel Boon's life. Scouted for George Rogers Clark during the Northwest Indian War. Was captured by the Shawnee (his rifle flashed in the pan), tortured, and survived running the gauntlet nine times. Few men survived one run. Scouted for Mad Anthony Wayne, served at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. In his late fifties, scouted in the war of 1812. Lead a militia group at the Battle of the Thames.

back then there was being an outlaw and the law got a little shady, kinda like who was right and who was wronged.

PBS , the American Experience has had some very good shows on a lot of the folks mentioned here, Wyatt Earp, Geo. Armstrong Custer, Annie Oakley, Billy the Kid. Jesse James, and Geronimo. Some of the "good guys" had shady sides then the "bad guys". But Jesse James was a murdering S O B.
so was armstrong custer imho.

A true hero fights for justice even when it's on the wrong side of the law.

Yep, I have to agree with you. Otherwise I might have said Josey Wales :)

Belle Star.... When she was unable to bribe the law into looking the other way, she would seduce them to get what she wanted... Now THAT is my kind of lady LOL

Ben Hall -in the 1860s made fools of the NSW police ,displayed chivalry ,& derring do that Ned kelly never duplicated.
Australia's biggest gold robbery took place near Eugowra. The bushrangers, Frank Gardiner, Ben Hall and their gang robbed the Forbes to Orange Ford and Company coach on 15 June, 1862. The bushrangers stole 77 kg (170 lb) of gold and £3,700 in cash.[3][5] The value in 2008 money is about A$4 million. [6] The site of the robbery was a gully 5 km (3 mi) north of Eugowra, known as Eugowra Rocks. Coaches and wagons had to slow down to get around a steep gully which went down to Mandagery Creek. They also had to get past many large granite rocks. One of these rocks was called "Coonbong" (dead man) by the Wiradjuri people.[7] Gardiner’s gang stopped two bullock wagons and left them in the middle of the road. When the gold escort coach arrived it had to slow right down and try to get past the wagons. The bushrangers, hidden behind the rocks, fired their guns at the coach. The coach driver and two policemen were wounded. One policeman had been shot in the testicles. The horses reared up and the coach was tipped on its side. One policemen assisted the wounded and they escaped into the bush. They went towards the Eugowra homestead for help. The other policeman went back down the road to a small hotel, Lyell's Shanty.[7]

The bushrangers took the gold and money. They put it onto the back of one of the coach horses. They went back to their horses which had been hidden up the hill. They escaped into the bush and stopped at the southern end of Noble’s Lagoon to share out the bags of gold. They went to Mount Wheogo, north of the Weddin Mountains, where Gardiner had his camp.[7]
thanks wikipaedia.

Ben Hall was betrayed and never got spend the loot.
Although over shadowed by Ned Kelly in later years -the story of Ben Halls life is astounding.

Yep.

I liked the defense for him in the assassination attempt of Gov. Lilburn Boggs. Rockwell was obviously innocent of the crime, because if he'd have attempted to kill Boggs, Boggs wouldn't have survived.

"Yer Honor, if I tried to kill that sum' bitch, you can believe he'd be dead."
