You guys must remember how hard it is to get the kamis to make things exactly as we call them...
So the design will probably be as pictured.... just smaller and lighter.
I would shoot for 14-15" and about 28-30 oz. This style of blade will balance better than a kukri of similar length and weight, but I still wouldn't go over 30 oz.

Ahhh damn it, I just realised that double edged knives are illegal to import in Australia...
I'd take one, but would be even more interested if the blade were narrower and lighter. Oh, and a villager model!:thumbup:

I think the blade needs to be narrower, it reminds me of an engorged tick as is.
Oddly though some other H.I. pics came up and B.C. molins avatar came up....
I checked by tape measure and at 14" this run will still be quite a substantial knife and will be a tad lighter also.

Historically, the kamis opt to make new designs about three times heavier than they need be. Used to drive Bill Martino nuts.
The smatchet is basically a knife, not a three pound axe. 16 inches ought to weigh in under 30 oz with rat-tail tang, possibly in the low 20oz range.
Best wishes in fighting the good fight to get it to a usable weight.![]()
That idea would help out Leo and the other Aussie's as double sides spears are legal imports just as are double sided swords with a blade length longer than 300mm/12inches!If they do come in at 3x the weight that they should be, you could always afix them to a hickory shaft and use it as a hatchet smatchet
