I did not know what part of the forum to ask this. I am looking to buy a yari, but I would like one that can take lots of abuse (not throwing). I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a really good one.
If you don't mind hafting it yourself Kris Cutlery sells a nice Yari bare blade. I got one and was very happy with it, really wan't very hard to get it done. I used two pieces of wood 2" by 1" by 6' and glued them together after chiseling out the slot for the tang. Also used some copper piping that I made oval shaped by compressing in a vise to help secure the top and bottom.
Otherwise I know Arms and Armour used to make a production Yari more than a decade ago they no longer offer. Perhaps they would do you one up custom for a reasonable price.
You can also haft them by drilling out the the end of the shaft (carefully!) and then heat the tang before inserting it. It'll burn the pilot hole to shape.
