Spec-Ops Sheaths...Are they all that?

Hi,

I'm considering a Spec-Ops Combat Master sheath for a custom I'm planning on having made. They look functional and quality made.

Can anyone give me some feedback on this sheath? Specifically, how has the material held up to use over time.

Thanks,
Jason

They are good universal sheaths for the money, but a little bulky in my opinion. Alot of people stuff a whole kit in the survival sheath, but the combat master is pretty limited.

Mine has held up well, but I don't really beat it up. The belt loop buttons snap together very hard. For a custom knife, I say get a nice custom sheath, but they aren't bad, just bulky.

I have a Spec-Ops combat master. I love it. My only criticism is that the accessory pouch could be a bit bigger. It fits my Wave nicely, but it isn't large enough for a PSK.

The material is definitely durable. I like the drop leg design, as it keeps the knife in place when you're sitting (in a canoe, for example) or moving about.

Anyway, great sheath. I highly recommend it.

I run one back in the states. They work well on issued gear as they are about the only available aftermarket sheath that is MOLLE compatable.

they were an ok deal before they raised their price. now I would just get a custom made for a few bucks more.

I have the now discontinued survival sheath from them and have zero complaints, it's an excellent sheath and the pouch is like Pandora's Box. :D

+1 on the survival sheath version. Hunt around and see if you can find one.

I didn't pay too much for mine. I think it will last a lifetime. It's an investment for me, as it's a durable sheath that can get covered in snow when I'm snowshoeing without worrying about damage. Also, I can use it for a variety of blades in the 5" range - all I need to do is make a little kydex insert for each.

All the best,

I like the Combat Master a lot. I think they're worth even the higher price. They are bulky, but very versatile in mounting options. The pouch is big enough for a multitool or a DMT diafold diamond stone and ceramic hone (what I keep in mine). I for one, don't like adding a whole kit to a knife sheath, I'd rather attach the sheath to a kit.

If you want the survival sheath with the bigger pouch, This guy advertises them.

Thanks, I'll probably go for a combat master, unless I can find a survival sheath for a good price. Is $30 plus shipping a good price for the combat master?

As far as the Survival style goes, it was better than the Combat Master for it's storage capacity. As stated already, they were great for the previous pricing and they even came with kydex inserts. I believe they now come with a cheaper made plastic version. If you like the style I would suggest going with Robert our own Survival Sheath Forum. He was the originator of that sheath.
I used to use them exclusively and they were very tough and versatile. I just prefer kydex currently.

Yep, Robert H. made me the insert for the sheath. Good knife, good sheath, IMHO...

So it is still possible to get a kydex insert made for the Survival Sheath? Any idea what the price and turn around time on something like that?

Vret,

I sent my HR to Robert (a hard thing to do, I hate sending my blades away) and I had it back within 2 weeks (maybe less). I found the original insert was tight on the HR, and Robert took care of that. He does nice work. Prices change, so it would probably be best to talk to Robert, but my recollection was that he was very reasonable....

I've got a couple and use them for either my Hell Razor, SFNO or NMSFNO. I really rate them and the fact I can rotate my knives through the same sheath is a bonus for me.
