Is there any way to take up space in a spec ops sheath so the blade doesn't slide around?

Warm the liner with hot water or a hair dryer and you can mold it a little. It’s not kydex, but it takes out the wiggle. I’d wrap a couple layers of blue painters tape on the blade before molding so it’s not super tight.

In the past Hogs have had sheath makers make kydex inserts to fit their blades and fit in the Spec Ops sheath

Oh, take the plastic out first!!
Use a heat gun, I think better than a torch...
Oven maybe, shouldn't take much...

It should look like this, but mine just has velcro. You gotta jam a butter knife down the back of it to make it release.

Hey Murman!
Jakob sounds like he's had luck with the boiling water...
Good advice!

Looks like Spec Ops may have switched up to Velcro.
My Spec ops sheaths have that screw at the bottom...

You may get more tries to get it right with the boiling water...

And if you really wreck it, just get some of your wife's Tupperware and start over!
Or, practice on Tupperware first...
Tho my Tupperware is left over margarine containers...
Ukranian Tupperware!

Finally, you could get one of the fine custom Kydex proprietors
to make you a new liner...

Good luck!

The hairdryer can also work but I messed up one insert with it because I did not heat it evenly enough. The surface got too hot while the core was still cold enough to break. Especially the corners are more difficult to heat up. Definitely go for the boiling water!

The older Spec Ops survival sheaths had the screw, those are really great! If you have the velcro, don't use a sharp knife to loosen the insert... Good luck :)

I'm jelly you have a brand new green one :D

I have the velcro backed version, I boiled it for like 20 seconds and folded a bunch of rags on my kitchen counter, put some rags on a cutting board and made a rag-panini-press, then stuck the knife in the soft boiled insert and then just smushed it and leaned on it while it was still warm. It did not come out looking like a custom kydex sheath but it's a fitted insert and works great.

I have had great success with the hair dryer method - as stated, heat evenly and you can get it pretty hot. I did not use painters tape and mine came out fine (although the tape idea is a great one)...i was careful to not go too tight and molded with fingers and in between a folded up towel pressing with both hands. It might look funny, although mine look okay, and who cares what they look like anyways, it is an insert. Spec-Ops are not cheap IMO, so I really liked doing the DIY method for a truly custom fitted insert...

The professional inserts I am sure are better, and I may want to try at some point. No need for me right now though.

The molded Spec-Ops insert is basically a one-knife deal once you mold it, although you could re-mold depending on the knife.
