Special Auction For BladeForums???. . . Let's Do It!!!

Site Support Auctions:

To help support this fantastic site, some members have offered to auction off some items from their gun room that they no longer need or use. This is how it will works:

1. Items will be listed individually in their own post.
2. A time will be specified by the seller for when the auction will end
3. Any registered forum user can bid on an item up until the ending time
4. Once an auction ends, the winning bidder will be contacted by the seller
5. Payment for purchase will be made directly to Savage Shooters via PayPal, money order, or personal check (PayPal only if you are outside the U.S.)
6. The seller will be notified when payment is received, at which time they will ship the item to the winning bidder
7. Shipping costs will be covered by the seller.
8. At the sellers discression, they may elect to start the bidding at a specified amount. This will act as their reserve.
9. This money paid for the purchase of an auction item does not qualify the auction winner for Site Member status or access to the Members Only portion of this forum. Additionally, donating items for auction does not quality the seller for Site Member status or access to the Members Only portion of this forum.
10. Winning bidders will be notified by the seller via Private Messege. If the winning bidder does not respond within 5 days of being notified, the item will be offered to the next highest bidder. It is the winning bidders responibility to notify the seller that they have sent payment so the seller knows not to offer the item to the next highest bidder.

If you have something laying around that you no longer need or use, you are more than welcome to offer it up for auction here under the rules outlined above. Remember all proceeds go to help support this site, so bid high as it's going to a good cause and you get some cool stuff.

Here's the rule that Jim B set up. They can be modified to be used here?
Again sorry about the link.

You guys that post on some of the other manufacturers forums can you post a link to this thread in those forums so those Manufacturers know about it. I think this is a great idea and it would be even better if there were more manufacturers supporting it.

:D:D

Count on me! I´ll be glad to offer a Pardal model.
Please let me know how this will be handled by the time you have it decided.

This is a great idea..

I also like the idea that you must be a basic memeber or higher to bid.

It should be open to all bidders.

Wouldn't it be possible to use Ebay for the auctions, and have a sticky thread posted several places with links to the auctions in progress?

I think that this is a great idea! :D

Ebay would open it up to a much broader audience, and the bottom line is that this auction is for the financial support of Bladeforums, so the more the merrier!!!

I love Rat's idea of using eBay as well. Just as a suggestion, you could have the sellers put the word "Bladeforum" in the title and that way the members could just do a search for "Bladeforum" on eBay and find all the knives available for sale to support the forum.

I think it can also be a good way to open up the forum to new members as well with all the exposure to these auctions.

Even though I'm a newbie to posting on this forum, I'll get my membership up to probably Gold status here shortly.

Also, as an individual, I would be willing to put up some of my own knives for sale for the cause.

Ebay is a great idea - one thing that would need to be figured out (I'm sure it will not be a problem) is who will post the auctions on Ebay? There are listing and final value fees involved that are passed on by Ebay to the person who actually lists the item. Depending on the number of auctions and the total ending price of all the auctions, this could get to be quite expensive.

I'd be happy to donate my time posting the listings, as I sell knives on ebay frequently and have 100% feedback. A possible scenario would be for the company or person who donates a knife, sheath, or other item to email a description and a few pictures to the person initiating the ebay listing. Once the item sells, the original "donor" would be notified that payment has been made directly to BF, and the donor ships the item out to the winning bidder. This keeps the knives, etc. all with their respective donors all the way through final shipping and eliminates a logistics hassle (although I for one would be happy to hold all donated knives for "inspection" until they are shipped to the winning bidders :D )

This does not solve the issue of listing and final value fees, which could end up being hundreds of $$ depending on the number of auctions. Any suggestions?

If anything is going to be put on ebay, it's only right that BFC be the one putting it there, and absorbing the costs for listings, we'd take care of the shipping as well.

I'll post more in a bit, I'm still working on getting the site back to 100%

Over on the straightrazorplace.com forums we just completed a giveaway to newbies that I helped to administer.
Long story short, using Ebay is probably the best idea. The second major suggestion is that all items be sent to the person (Spark) who does the listings and shipping. We had problems when items were shipped from various donors.

I could donate a honed and shave tested straight razor if anyone thinks its worthwhile? I would also ask a couple of custom knifemakers if they would be interested in donating.

This is an excellent site and I would like to contribute if I can.
My first knife is not yet completed but I have lots of straight razors!:)

I'm not a knifemaker, but I could contribute a nice, fine art photographic print of nature, if this isn't out-of-line, and if anyone was interested.

Mike

I have been following this and now that it has evolved to ebay being the venue to handle the auctions, I like it.

I did not like limiting it to paying customers. Hundreds of people are lurking out there to read and enjoy the forums, without ever posting a word. Maybe using ebay they will become more involved without any arm twisting.

I will throw out, that this could turn into a real nightmare for someone at BF.
If you have never sold anything on ebay, it is very time consuming. I once listed 10 or 15 items pretty close together and it took a lot of work to track it all, even with ebay doing most of the work for you.

I might suggest that if this flys....and ebay is the way.... might consider just running a 5 day auction instead of the normal 7, or even a 3 day, if it was advertised here first.

Details could be a real kikker on this.

Honestly, I'd just run the auctions 1 at a time and we'll see what happens.

Spark,

Good dealio!

We'll ship some blades to you ASAP. I'm really glad to see this idea taking off! :D

Ok I put my glasses on but it hasn't helped. Where is the address we are supposed to mail these donated knives to? Spark where do you want me to mail this to so you can get it to list?

Thanks
